In the 1970s, HEIDENAU specialised in motorbike and scooter tyres. The first HEIDENAU tyres, produced during the GDR era, were manufactured for Simson motorbikes, as well as for the Trabant and the Barkas. In 1994, the company was finally established as Reifenwerk HEIDENAU GmbH & Co. KG. At that time, the manufacturer employed nearly 800 staff. HEIDENAU’s product range consisted of 35 products back then. This number has risen significantly to this day.
Today, HEIDENAU specialises in the development of scooter tyres, the requirements for which differ significantly from those of other tyres. And even within the scooter tyre segment, there are varying requirements regarding a tyre’s performance, depending on its intended use.
Ever since the rise in the number of scooter enthusiasts in the 1990s, HEIDENAU has been continuously conducting research and development – whether in relation to tyre construction or the material compound. Scooter riders should be provided with optimally tailored products – particularly in view of the increasing performance specifications of the scooters themselves. HEIDENAU thus produced the first scooter racing slick, the first scooter winter tyres and other specialist sizes. The best example is the 8-inch tyre for older Vespa models.
At HEIDENAU’s tyre factory, around 200 employees craft 550 different tyre designs with a high level of craftsmanship. Through its commitment to maintaining Germany as a centre of production and innovation, coupled with the utmost attention to quality and a hands-on corporate culture, the tyre manufacturer has succeeded in firmly establishing HEIDENAU as a premium brand in the market.

HEIDENAU is the last tyre manufacturer to genuinely develop and produce scooter tyres in Germany – and to do so partly by hand! Fully automated production lines are rarely found in HEIDENAU’s factories. Instead, the experience and expertise of the staff are reflected in every single Tyre, which involves over 100 individual production steps. This ensures quality and reliability for customers.

HEIDENAU tyres are particularly distinguished by the variety of sizes and grades available, as HEIDENAU is the only tyre manufacturer that can offer such a broad product range – and, within this range, such an immense variety of sizes for scooter tyres. This ensures that every scooter and Vespa rider can find exactly the Tyre they need – one that suits them, their vehicle and their riding style. The tyre manufacturer’s all-weather tyres and winter tyres for scooters and motorbikes are certainly key products. With the K58 Snowtex, HEIDENAU introduced the first winter tyre for scooters. At the time, this was in response to the 2010 winter tyre requirement, which, however, no longer applies to scooters and motorbikes today.

A tyre everyone has been waiting for: its design, handling and grip are clearly those of a modern road sports bike, but its durability is as impressive as that of an all-rounder! The K80 SR offers high mileage whilst maintaining good wet grip. The special arrangement of the tread grooves, combined with a newly developed carcass, ensures perfect straight-line stability and excellent tracking when cornering at speed.
The K58 is a popular all-season tyre. The spaced-out tread blocks of this all-season tyre, combined with a tread pattern tailored to the respective vehicle class, ensure excellent water drainage. The resulting excellent grip in both wet and dry conditions, reliable straight-line stability and superb cornering grip have been winning over our customers for over 15 years. Furthermore, an above-average tread depth, combined with a specially formulated compound, ensures a long tyre life.
The K80 SR/SRS racing tyre, designed from the ground up, features a weight-optimised carcass specifically engineered for racing use, enabling it to withstand the high stresses of the racetrack despite its light weight. Thanks to the new tyre construction and optimised tyre geometry, this racing tyre delivers extremely high stability and a forgiving handling limit. Consequently, even very steep lean angles are possible, depending on the rider’s skill.
