Product description
Since 1990, the manufacturer from the small Italian town of Aprilia has been manufacturing high-end racing tyres which have taken the racing scene by storm. Moped and scooter racers swear by these tyres.
The PMTRacing Tyres are available in a variety of compounds in 10,12 or 17 inches. These tyres are the tyres of choice for many riders in the various racing series in Italy, Germany and England. And the racers at SIP Scootershop are convinced of the tyres for the following reasons:
- Perfect traction on lean angles
- Racing tyres for wet conditions
- Drag tyres for speed races
SIP Scootershop stocks PMT tyres with the following compounds and profiles:
Slick, hard compound
Lasts longer than the “medium” or “soft” compound due to its harder compound, making it ideal for longer stints or long distance cups. Due to its attributes, however, the hard compound takes a long time to reach operational temperature (approx. 80°C). This tyre is recommended for asphalt temperatures of 30-40°C.
Slick, medium compound
Medium compounds are the most frequently used form of tyres in racing. They don’t just offer the best grip, but the perfect combination between grip and durability. Both, of course, according to the road surface and the outdoor conditions. With the medium compound, you cover a wide range of conditions and drive on the safe side. Again, the ideal asphalt temperature is 30-40°C. The operating temperature of the medium compound is approx. 75°C. As with the hard compound, this is only reached after a longer running-in period.
Slick, soft compound
This offers grip at its finest! The soft compound has only one purpose: To literally glue the tyre to the road. Accordingly, the operational temperature of 70°C is quickly reached. The soft compound means that the tyre is only good for one race, however, and has to be changed right afterwards.
R-Slick
Rain tyre or slick? It’s a question many race teams ask themselves when the weather conditions change. PMT has the solution: An intermediate tyre with a slick tread pattern. This tyre is perfect when the road surface is slightly damp, but there is no actual water on it that has to be displaced by the tyre tread. The tyre heats up quickly, which means it is occasionally used as a “qualifier” to complete just one fast lap.
Rain Racing
THE rain racing tyre for scooter racing. A sophisticated tread pattern with a perfect compound are the main difference to the rain tyres which have been used in racing until now. Every team that has used PMT rain racing tyres so far has been absolutely thrilled. With this tyre, you can drive faster and with better lean angles in the rain than with road tyres in dry conditions. Our top recommendation for heavy rain and wet road surfaces! Differences remain in the designs of the “Type R1” and “Type R2” versions. The R2 versions are no longer manually cut; the new racing rain tyre tread is machine-cast. The R2 versions also have a hardness of approximately 30 Shore in contrast to the 45 Shore of the previous R1 versions. By way of comparison – jelly babies are roughly 10 Shore.
Drag Race
The wide contact surface, in combination with the extremely soft compound, makes this tyre the absolute MUST HAVE in acceleration races. These wide rollers quite simply have more grip at the start than normal slicks, but they also wear out more quickly. Wheel spin? Not with the ...
Tyre pressure
PMT recommends a tyre pressure of 1.2-1.3 bars at the front and 1.4-1.9 bars at the rear! The pressures depend very much on the road surface, vehicle and rider weight, though.
Conclusion: For those who want to be competitive with their scooter on the racetracks of this world, PMT Racing Tyres are a great choice. Ride on!

Our racing pros recommend - SIP-TIP:
- Tyre warmers are essential at the track
- If you change tyres frequently, you will be pleased with this tyre mounting tool
- SIP rims are perfect for tubeless tyres
SIP has inexpensive rims for all vehicles. It is best to mount a set of winter or all-weather tyres on rims, then you can change quickly and easily when the weather conditions are right. You don't have to get your fingers dirty unnecessarily or visit a workshop to mount them.
The SIP racers think:
»The advantages of these thoroughbred tyres simply cannot be beaten. Thanks to the different rubber compounds, maximum lean angles can be ridden in all road and weather conditions. PMT offers the only rain racing tyre where the front wheel rises instead of the rear wheel slipping. Sensational!«
-Nico Gnisci, SIP tyre expert and multiple DBM champion
»The PMT Drag Race is the only tyre besides the SIP 10026000 that is available for the Quartermile. It not only delivers top performance, but also looks good. The grip and rolling resistance can be perfectly balanced via the tyre pressure. With its rather rectangular cross-section, it consistently uses the tyre width to convert the entire drive power into propulsion. Thrust is the key word here.«
