A winter tyre has to stay flexible at low temperatures so as to build up enough grip. To achieve this, special compounds with silica are used on the HEIDENAU Silica winter tyres. Silica is a synthetically produced silicon dioxide (SiO2), and ensures a flexible bond between the complex material components and additives of a rubber tyre compound. This flexibility reduces the internal friction as well as the development of the temperature of the tread rubber. The HEIDENAU K66 LT also contains a particularly high silica content, which allows especially good thermoelastic attributes to be achieved at low temperatures. The designation “LT” stands for the sipes which are integrated into the tread. The HEIDENAU K66 LT Silica therefore achieves a high level of interlocking with the surface as well as excellent braking results on snowy surfaces.
