Product description
Specifications plates display essential vehicle details and are usually found near the rear brake pedal, riveted solidly to the frame. They are available in differing versions, according to scooter models. They receive the vehicle data by being engraved or die stamped. According to the type they then have to display the allowed total weight, vehicle type and the year of manufacture up till now.
Conclusion: The German vehicle approval officials and police force insist on this offical detail….
# 11040100: Square Augsburg specification plate is meant for every Vespa produced in Augsburg between 1958 and 1961.
# 11040000: The rounded ‘Augsburg’ specification plate is for all German produced Vespas from the Augsburg factory between 1962 and 1964 (first date of registration ran also until 1967). The small specification plate was provided with all German models from between 1958-1972.
From 1964 Augsburg no longer produced Vespas themselves and purely modified Italian imports for the German market (indicators etc.) including the Vespa GL Sprint (Vespa S) and the VSO models. From 1968 all models supplied by the Italians no longer required modification and the factory in Augsburg simply fixed a specification plate and ensured their road worthiness before delivery.
