Tuning kit for legal conversion to 125cc of Vespa Smallframe models.

 

The 125cc capacity class is traditionally a very popular class, as it serves among other things 16 year olds as an entry-level class for individual mobility. In some countries, two-wheelers with 125cc may also be driven with a car license. Since 2020, there is also a regulation in Germany that allows holders of a car driving license to expand their license with a few driving hours to 125cc two-wheelers. For many a good reason to convert their Vespa to this capacity class.

To create a certificate for the conversion from 50cc to 125cc is unfortunately not easy. After 1.5 years of testing and research we have managed it in cooperation with our partner at the GTÜ. With this kit it is possible to register a 50cc Vespa Smallframe officially as a 125cc. Of course, it is also possible to equip 80-125 Smallframes with this kit road legal.

The cylinder

The core of the tuning kit is a powerful cylinder from VMC. It offers 125cc displacement, combined with a very modern cylinder layout. The 6 channels have a modern layout and large cross sections. The head is 8-bolted, and a high-quality flat piston with 2 piston rings is used as the piston.

What is included in the kit?

The kit is extensive and includes all parts that are important for the power delivery of the engine. From the carburetor to the crankshaft to the exhaust. The vape ignition is also included in the kit. It delivers the required current particularly reliably and powerfully. It also fits the VMC GS cylinder without modifications. This builds a little wider. Therefore, not only must the dust ring on the engine case be removed, a modified pole wheel must also be used. With the Vape this problem is eliminated.

Conclusion: with this kit a 50cc can not only be legally converted to 125cc, the scooter can also boast modern driving performance after the modification.

 

Attention: Before mounting the cylinder, the ring-shaped part of the jam protection on the engine block must be removed, which stands over the cylinder sealing surface. It would collide with the large overflows of the cylinder. Also, an original fan impeller will not fit in this location.
