Product description
Modern 2-stroke engines now use a reed valve to control the intake. This works more effectively in everyday operation than the piston control originally used on a Lambretta. This is because the Reed Valve can adapt to different speed ranges and allows less "blowback". In addition to the original Cylinders, there is also a whole range of tuning Cylinders that are operated with piston control.
LTH manufactures a very sophisticated Intake Manifoldwith which piston-controlled Engines can be set up for operation with a Reed Valve operation. This offers a number of advantages:
Increased performance: Reed Valves increase performance in the lower speed range; without changing the intake, maximum power may be slightly lower. If holes are milled in the Piston and/or a boost port is fitted, the power increases due to a 360° open intake.
Carburettor size: The Reed Valve is optimized for carburettors up to 28mm, which is sufficient up to 22hp, larger carburettors hardly bring any performance increase up to this power range and only increase consumption and worsen the response. The LTH demonstration engine with Rapido Cylinder currently has 28.5hp and uses a Keihin PWK28! The Stage6 R/T reed valve used, even if it looks small, has an approx. 20% larger surface area than a standard Malossi PX Reed Valve.
Blow back: Locking the reed valve in the event of overpressure in the intake tract greatly reduces blow back, i.e. the spraying out of unburned mixture.
Adjustability: By reducing the blowback, the Carburettor is easier to adjust as the reintroduced mixture no longer influences the ratio in the short term.
Jetting: The jetting must be adjusted, but it has not yet been possible to clearly determine in which direction.
Consumption: The increase in power in the lower rev range and the reduction in blowback reduce consumption. Depending on the Cylinder by up to 50%.
Response behavior: Since the Cylinder does not have to process the spit-out blowback first, the Engine accepts throttle position changes much faster.
Starting behavior: The Engine starts more easily due to the improved carburetor setting and the increase in power at low engine speeds.
Durability: The impact of the Reed Valve Petals is cushioned by the Viton-coated diaphragm support, which Elevates the durability of the Dies.
Spacer: Is included in the scope of delivery, but is not required.
Gaskets: Can be used, but we recommend using a liquid sealant such as Dirko HT.
Space requirements: All carburettors up to 35mm fit under the Side Panels! Depending on the carburetor model and Lambrettamodel, a rubber knee can also be accommodated to which an Air Filter can then be screwed. With the following Carburettors, for example, this fits a Series 3: Dell'orto PHB/VHSB up to 30mm, Mikuni TMX up to 30mm, Mikuni TM up to 35mm, Keihin PWK up to 28mm, Koso PWK up to 34mm.
Cooling fins: Depending on the cylinder type, one or two cooling fins must be milled off at the end. However, the effort involved is very limited, with some cylinder types this is not necessary at all. The Cylinder Cowling must be adapted.
Intake port: The port is designed to fit smaller Cylinders. For Cylinders with a larger intake hole, it makes sense to adapt the nozzle accordingly.
Flow: The flow of the V3 version has been optimized using a computer program.
Quality: The nozzle is manufactured in Germany by a renowned automotive supplier using the oil-bonded sand casting process and meets high quality requirements. The material is very stable and does not deform even under heat.
The V3 version of the LTH Intake Manifold is a completely new design as a cast part. A very fine and dense sand casting process is used. Manufactured in Germany by a renowned automotive supplier. Improved adaptability to different Cylinders. Smaller base hole and at the same time more meat for expansion and large holes. Improved calculated flow behavior.
Conclusion: A very useful upgrade to make a piston-controlled Lambretta more suitable for everyday use and to increase riding pleasure.
