Product description
Often the mileage of most Vespa models with cast aluminium headset (T5, PK, Cosa. Etc,...) can be determined by checking the solidity of the throttle and gear-selector handlebar tubes. If there is excessive play the slide-bearings that hold them in place are worn beyond repair. We have managed to locate a producer manufacturing these items using a high-end plastic slide-bushing material and now have them available for purchase from the SIP shop. These items are slightly wider than the originals and the slot is also missing, making them capable of handling a lot more abuse while remaining fully functional. We recommend a soft piece of wood be laid between them and a hammer during mounting to avoid them being damaged while being gently knocked into place. The bushes are then firmly positioned, ready to accept the control-tubes being slid snugly into the new sleeve-bearings. On certain PK models these bushes will require narrowing slightly with a small hacksaw or craft knife to fit properly.
Conclusion : An excellent hidden upgrade! Suddenly the headset controls give the impression of riding a factory-fresh Vespa!
SIP – TIP : Do not lubricate plastic slide-bearings with oil or grease as this attracts all kinds of dust and dirt which increases friction and also wear. A non oil-based lubricant such as (#81104000) is ideal!
