The Vespa 90 was introduced together with the V50 in 1963 and was one of the last Vespa models developed by Corradino D'Ascanio before his retirement. Visually, it is similar to the V50, but has an aluminium Legshield Trim as standard, even as the first series, and is equipped with 10-inch wheels ex works, in contrast to the V50, which was offered with 9-inch wheels in Italy.
The Rear Light was enlarged to make room for the standard Brake Light. In the early years, the Vespa 90 came with a dark blue Single Saddle, while a double seat was available as an option. The Badge on the Legshield was also in dark blue and was riveted. Aluminium Floor Runners with rubber profile inserts were used right from the start.
The Engine was based on the Model of the Vespa 50 (V5A1). Equipped with a Cylinder with a bore of 47 mm and a stroke of 51 mm , the Vespa 90 had a displacement of 88.5 cc and an output of 3.6 hp, enabling it to reach speeds of between 65 and 70 km/h . The three-speed gearbox was equipped with a three-speed gearbox. Its three-speed gearbox had a rather long primary gear ratio of 2.86 for the engine power, which made it a little overtaxed. Remarkably, the Main Jet of the 16.16 Carburettor only had a size of 63, although the 75 cc tuning cylinders popular with fans on small Vespas usually used Main Jets with sizes over 70!
