Between 1969 and 1972, the first series of the Vespa 50 Special was manufactured with a 3-speed gearbox, while the third series was produced from 1972 to 1983 with a 4-speed gearbox. The first series was characterised by the antique, slanted Badge on the front and rear as well as 9-inch wheels, in contrast to the 10-inch wheels of the third series. Another recognisable feature of the Vespa was the trapezoidal Headlight Unit, which was set into a chrome-plated brass ring. In addition, the Horn was covered with a plastic panelling for the first time.
The same as on the Vespa 50L, but with an SHB 16/12 Carburettor from Dellorto.

Centre Stand with a diameter of 16 mm for frames up to number ☆ 77695, thereafter with a diameter of 20 mm.
Single Seat equipped with a Luggage Hook.
Two-line aluminium Badge on the Legshield with "Vespa" and "50" in old cursive lettering, riveted.
Badge "Special" at the rear up to frame number ☆ 38639 in old cursive lettering, made of aluminium and attached with metal clips.
Beading on the aluminium Legshield.
Floor Runners made of aluminium, fitted with rubber profiles.
Mudguard fin and Rear Light Cover made of dark grey plastic.
Elongated Steering Lock fitted with a Cap.
Slim Clutch and Brake Lever, each with Ball at the end.
Clutch and Brake Lever fixed to the Handlebar with slotted screws.
Handlebar grips in black with hexagonal Piaggio logo.
Tank designed with a saddle bridge for the Single Saddle.
Control element of the Fuel Tap Lever made of metal.
