The Vespa 50 L (for "Lusso", Italian for luxury) is a visually upgraded version of the Vespa 50 N. Although the Engine and Frame of the Vespa 50 L are the same as the Model 50 N, it stands out with various technical and visual upgrades. Technically, the front suspension was improved with a hydraulic double-action Shock Absorber. The design of the Vespa 50 L features numerous innovations: An aluminium edge guard now surrounds the Legshield, similar to the Largeframe models. Instead of a thin aluminium plate, the Legshield is now adorned with highly polished, relief-like "Vespa L" aluminium lettering. This design feature is continued at the rear above the Rear Light. The mudguard is adorned with an aluminium fin, while the Floor Runners are no longer made of solid rubber, but of riveted aluminium strips with rubber profiles, which is typical of larger models. The Vespa 50 L comes with a double seat as standard, which was previously only available as an optional extra on the 50 N. An aluminium Luggage Hook is located at the front end of the Seat.
From 1 October 1967, Piaggio introduced a new hexagonal Emblem, which was positioned at the top end of the Horn Cover. This Emblem became the characteristic feature for the company's entire vehicle range.
Model V5A1T, with serial numbers starting from 540001, is characterised by an extended wheelbase. This model was produced between 1963 and 1971 and includes both the first and second series.
The first series of the V5A1T came with closed rims that had four holes on the inside and were available in 9 and 10 inch sizes. The tyre size for the first series was 2.75x9 inches. The weight of the vehicle was 67.5 kg and the tank held 5.2 litres, including a reserve of 0.7 litres. Fuel consumption was around 1.48 litres per 100 kilometres.
Tyres of size 3.00x10 inches were used for the second series of the V5A1T. The weight increased slightly to 70 kg. The tank capacity also increased to 5.6 litres, including 1 litre reserve, and fuel consumption was around 1.53 litres per 100 kilometres.
The Engine of the Vespa corresponds to that of the 50N version: It is a single-cylinder two-stroke engine with a bore of 38.4 mm, a stroke of 43 mm and a displacement of 49.77 cubic centimetres.
