Overview SUZUKI

In 1909, the Suzuki Loom Works was founded in the small coastal town of Hamamatsu, the present-day city. Michio Suzuki, the founder of the company of the same name, brought weaving machines onto the market that were capable of producing textiles of varying complexity. They even surpassed the quality of their European competitors' analogues. In 1920, the company was renamed Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co. When the Second World War came to an end, there was a great need for cheap means of transport in Japan. Michio Suzuki took advantage of the situation and developed a completely new concept of a vehicle that was affordable for ordinary Japanese citizens. Michio designed the bike with Engine, which had a rather romantic name - Power Free. It was the world's first motorbike with a 36 cc Engine. The public was enthusiastic about his invention, and the high demand for SUZUKI mopeds enabled the founder to receive government subsidies and expand his company. Within a short period of time, the world welcomed the Suzuki Engine.

SUZUKI model history

The first Suzuki motorbike (Colleda) was developed in 1954. After the Colleda failed in a racing competition, Michio came to the conclusion that he had to develop a faster motorbike for all distances. Together with the German racing driver and designer Ernest Degner, they began to work on a new concept for a racing motorbike. Their joint goals were already achieved in 1962 when Ernest won the competition.

SUZUKI is best known for its motorbikes and cars, but SUZUKI also pioneered another market segment: Until 1999, the term "scooter" mainly stood for smaller Vespa-like vehicles up to 250 cc. SUZUKI revolutionised this market in 1999 with the Burgman AN 400, the first large scooter that weighed around 200 kg and was equipped with a 385 cc Engine and a continuously variable V-belt transmission. This enabled a motorbike-like riding experience for the first time. This was followed by the AN 650, an even heavier and more powerful scooter, which was specially designed for long-distance journeys and was very popular in the USA. The Burgman 400 has now gone through five generations, with the original model being introduced in 1998 as the Burgman 250. The Burgman 650, which was first presented in 2002, has undergone several upgrades over the years. SUZUKI also offers smaller 125 and 200 cc scooter models under the Burgman name, which are currently in their third generation.
