Overview RIEJU

In 1934, two young businessmen, Luis Riera Carré and Jaime Juanola Farres, began their entrepreneurial adventure with the manufacture of bicycle accessories. They merged their names and created the brand name RIEJU (RIEra+JUanola).

They then began to buy a plot of land to build a factory, but the Spanish Civil War interrupted their plans. The Republican government confiscated the factory before it was finished in order to use it as a lorry centre for its fleet. During the war, a second floor was added to the existing building. The second floor was intended as an interest payment on the return of the facilities. After the end of the Spanish Civil War, RIEJU resumed its business by manufacturing a range of bicycle accessories in 1934.

Later, it began manufacturing the first RIEJU bicycles under the brand names EMPORIUM and MARATHON. The company (with about 35 employees) produced about 30 bicycles per week (this was the business plan presented to the delegation of the Ministry of Industry). RIEJU's first product in 1945 was what was later called a "moped". It was a bicycle with a 38 cc 4T auxiliary engine (French Serwa engine), direct transmission to the rear wheel, two gears and 1 CV. It was even capable of reaching 40 km/h!

RIEJU model history

in 1959, RIEJU worked on the development of a scooter with 50 and 125 cc AMC engines. The design was based on the French sulky scooter with a high wheel. in 1958, RIEJU presented its commercial version of the scooter project under the name ISARD: a motorbike-scooter combination with a very special look. This model almost caused the company to fail, as it was never successful on the commercial market. The introduction of a bold and daring look, combined with the ambition to bring a perfect, finished project to the market (which considerably Elevated the selling price), and poor mechanical accessibility forced RIEJU to cease production in 1960 - with only a few units sold. The TAHON (SPORT 125), a slightly modified copy of the French Derny with a 2-stroke AMC Engine, was also unsuccessful.

RIEJU has made considerable cultural and economic adjustments and developed the MIUS (Sustainable Urban Individual Mobility) in 2010, which sets itself apart from the competition. This E-Scooter is characterised by its light weight of 94 kg, a top speed of 65 km/h and a real-world range of 50 km. It offers solutions for urban mobility needs at a cost that is 7 times lower than a vehicle with a combustion engine. The MIUS is undoubtedly the benchmark in the field of electric two-wheelers for urban transport.

Expansion into other markets is necessary in 2013. This strategy led the brand to enter the 50 and 125 cc scooter segment. The result is the RS Sport 50 cc, a racing moped with a powerful water-cooled Minarelli engine that competes in the high-end segment at the time. in 2015, the brand launches the CityLine at the Milan Motor Show (EICMA), a mega scooter with 125cc and 300cc Cylinders that competes in the GT scooter market with a latest-generation Piaggio water-cooled fuel-injected engine. The CityLine becomes the coveted Spanish alternative to maxi scooters.
