It was the displacement-obsessed Brits who finally brought the Lambretta TV 200 into production. Peter Agg, managing director of Lambretta Concessionaires Ltd. in the UK, went to Innocenti to ask for a larger engine, which was needed for more top speed. He was turned away as he was told that they did not make larger engines and that if the British wanted larger machines, they should buy motorbikes. But Peter Agg persisted, and eventually Innocenti decided that the British could have the larger displacement, but the concessionaires would have to take over the warranty as Innocenti did not approve the model.
Unexpectedly high speeds and impressive acceleration figures motivated the marketing department to advertise the TV as a "Gran Turismo" - a symbol for sporty vehicles of the time. Gradually, TV 200s also found their way to France, Switzerland, the USA and Scandinavia. With 10.75 hp , they reached speeds of up to 112 km/h, but only under optimal conditions. The Engine occasionally had difficulties in fully utilising the very long ratio fourth gear.
It is not yet entirely clear whether the first TV 200 models were simply 175cc engines bored out to 198 cc, or whether a 200 Casing was installed from the outset. However, as soon as the TV 200 had a large Crankcase, a Crankshaft with 107 mm Conrod and 66 mm Piston with corresponding piston was installed. A longer gearbox will be fitted. The Cylinder has a very deep intake. The exhaust port is initially relatively low, but very wide. As this layout occasionally leads to problems with the rings, a Cylinder with a higher and narrower exhaust is inserted. One problem with the TV 200 is the strong vibrations, which repeatedly lead to problems with the exhaust bracket.
