The Special X project was launched to further enhance the already high quality and attention to detail that characterised Innocenti. Under the advertising slogan "SX-Appeal", Lambretta introduced the new model, which was offered in two engine variants, 150 and 200 cc. The sporty, elegant and timeless lines of the bodywork were largely retained for both engine variants, with the SX 150 differing from the LIS 150 only by a few visual modifications.
The hexagonal Headlight Unit and the Side Panels with chrome-plated decorative elements and the "Lambretta" Badge were retained. New additions include a polished horn grille and a chrome-plated Decorative Trims on the mudguard. Both the SX 150 and the SX 200 were characterised by the "Special" Badge on the left front of the Legshield, with an "X150" or "X200" badge above it. On the right-hand side, seen from the front, the "Lambretta" Badge was emblazoned and the "Innocenti" emblem on the Horn Cover. Under the Seat, both vehicles now had a Sign with the "Lambretta Innocenti" Badge in black on a silver background. Both models lost the Chrome Ring under the Steering Head, a detail that had already been omitted from the last models of the TV 175. The 200 models were equipped with a 140 km/h speedometer, the 150 models with a 120 km/h speedometer. On the SX models, the face of the speedometer was changed and the Face Plate was a lower cover with a white bezel directly under the lens.
As with all Innocentis products, many changes were made during production. The first examples were fitted with white Light Switches, which were later replaced by black ones, and the normal Side Panels Trims with Grips gave way to clip-on elements. The metal toolboxes were later replaced by grey plastic parts, and the cast horn plate was replaced by an alloy with a blue background and the word Innocenti. There were also changes to the Forks, from Screw to Clip Buffers. The last SX150 models also had silver rims and hubs.
When production ceased in January 1969, some three years after it began, 31,238 150 cc versions had left the production line. The Italians found the cost of producing the Model too high, and of the 20,783 200 cc versions produced, most found their way to the UK.

The metal Glovebox is painted and the Rubber Buffer in the Fork is firmly fitted.
SX 200 - Second edition (from early 1968 to autumn 1968)
With a rectangular Emblem on the Horn Cover and a Tool Box made of unpainted plastic. The Rubber Buffer in the Fork is now plug-in.
SX 200 - Third edition (from autumn 1968 to winter 1968)
The Side Panels do without external fasteners. In addition, the SX 200 is given a chrome trim strip on the Mudguard and a polished horn grille.
150 & 200 SX - Last delivery (from winter 1968 to January 1969)
New colour variants were introduced and all M 8 nuts had a spanner size of 13.
The modifications to the 200 cc Engine were much more extensive. Experience with problems on the TV 200 led to modifications to the Exhaust, Piston, Engine mountings and Cylinder. An additional bracket on the Exhaust, which was attached under the Crankcase, ensured better absorption of vibrations. A revision of the Cylinder porting and the combination with the TV 175 gearbox significantly improved the SX 200's suitability for everyday use. With an output of 11 hp, it reached speeds of 107 km/h, which was the rule rather than the exception.
The Lambretta SX200 is still very much in demand today, and models can fetch high prices. You should be careful when buying one of these and inform yourself thoroughly. Where do you look for this vehicle?
