Production ran from February 1950 to 1952, during which time almost 130,000 units of the Lambretta C and LC were manufactured and mainly sold on the Italian market. This marked a significant increase in production volume compared to the previous A and B models. Model C was initially offered as a standard variant, but Innocenti soon expanded its range to include the Lambretta LC. This model was the first Innocenti scooter to feature fully covered Legshields and side panels, a design feature that was to characterise all subsequent models. The "L" in the name stood for "Lusso", Italian for "luxury", as the scooter offered riders protection from noise, dirt and the elements.
In contrast to the earlier A and B models, the Model C was characterised by a one-piece tubular frame. The fuel tank was positioned under the Frame, and both the front and optional rear Seat were attached to this central structure. There was still a toolbox behind the rear seat, but this was now attached to the main frame via an oval extension. A distinctive round Light adorned the Handlebar, while the Rear Light, a smaller round unit, was mounted above the licence plate. Suspension at the front was via a trailing arm, and the Model featured Drum Brakes at the front and rear, with a foot-operated rod for the rear brake. There were a variety of Replacement Parts available for the Lambrettas, including speedometers, Horn, spare wheel, Floor Mats and additional protection with retro-fit Legshields to personalise the scooters. A rear Luggage Carrier was particularly popular.
The Lambretta LC offered passengers Footboards at the rear and had a flap on the right-hand side, which made it easier to access the Fuel Tap and Carburettor for cold starts without having to remove the Side Panel Trim. It was considered a "closed model" due to its cover, although it was technically identical to the Model C. One major adaptation concerned the engine cooling; the LC had cooling fins on the flywheel and covers that channelled the cooling air around the Cylinder and flywheel, as the direct cylinder cooling of the C model was not feasible. Unlike the Lambretta C, which had a lunchbox-like toolbox at the rear, the LC had a small toolbox under the Seat for storing tools.
Although the Engine was similar in design to the previous models(123 cc, direct air cooling), it was now firmly integrated into the Frame, whereby the rear wheel suspension was realised by a Spring, which was compressed by means of an axial rod. The engine output remained at 4.3 hp, and the Lambretta continued to rely on the tried-and-tested MA16 Dellorto Carburettor and the 3-speed manual gearbox, which was still controlled by a Teleflex Wire. The top speed remained unchanged at 70 km/h, despite an increase in weight of ten kilograms compared to the Model 125 B. The principle of direct cylinder cooling, which was made possible by the airstream, was also retained on the Model C.
