Overview KREIDLER

Kreidler's Metall- und Drahtwerke G.m.b.H. Fahrzeugbau, based in Kornwestheim near Stuttgart, was a renowned German manufacturer specialising in the production of mopeds, mopeds, mokicks and small and light motorbikes with a displacement of between 50 and 80 cc. Originally founded in 1903, the company initially focussed on the manufacture of metal products. in 1951, KREIDLER revolutionised the market with the introduction of the Model K 50, their first moped with a 50 cc displacement. Despite this success, the company had to lock its doors in 1982 after going bankrupt. Today, the Kreidler brand belongs to Cycle Union GmbH, a company of the Prophete Group. Bicycles, scooters and small and light motorbikes are sold in specialist shops under this renowned name. However, the production of models with combustion engines was discontinued in 2017. However, these two companies also filed for insolvency at the end of 2022. Today, the company New Cycle produces e-bikes and bicycles under the name KREIDLER.

KREIDLER model history

From 1951, KREIDLER presented the Model K 50, in cooperation with Rex, one of the first vehicles in the 50cc class, which was already designed for this purpose, although the term "moped" was only introduced later. in 1957, KREIDLER introduced the Florett (K 54) moped model, which was powered by a horizontally mounted single-cylinder two-stroke engine. This had a hard chrome-plated light alloy cylinder and was cooled by a fan. A moped version of this model was also offered. After economic difficulties and a new start under the Cycle Union umbrella, various scooter models with 50, 125 and even 250 cc were offered from 2008. the E-Florett, an electrically powered scooter, was added in 2015.
