Overview ITALJET

ITALJET Moto Srl, commonly known as ITALJET, is an Italian manufacturer of motorbikes that has been in existence since 1961. It has its roots in the Italemmezeta company founded by Leopoldo Tartarini in 1957. Tartarini, the son of racing driver Egisto Tartarini, had a successful career in motorbike racing before founding the company and used the contacts he made to establish himself in the industry. In the early years, the company focussed on the production of motorbike frames in which MZ Engines were installed. From 1959, Italemmezeta expanded its production to include complete motorbikes. in 1961, the company ITALJET was founded with its Seat in San Lassaro di Savena near Bologna and initially used Minarelli and Sachs engines in its products.

In the 1990s, ITALJET withdrew from the motorbike market due to a lack of sales success and instead concentrated on the production of scooters. Despite technical innovations in this segment, an increase in the price of ITALJET scooters led to the company's bankruptcy in 2002. In 2006, ITALJET was acquired by Blue Energy, which expanded the product range to include quads and a renewed motorbike line. One of the notable products after the takeover is the dragster scooter, which is available in two variants with 125 and 200 cc.

ITALJET model history

Scooter models that incorporated technological innovations such as those introduced in the Dragster series were launched in the 1990s. These included features such as water-cooled two-stroke engines, tubular trellis frames and Ackermann steering. One of these models even found its place in the Museum of Modern Art.

Other notable models from this period include:

  • The "Jupiter", known as the maxi-scooter.

  • The "Torpedo", a large wheel scooter.

  • The "Velocifero", a retro-style scooter modelled on the design of a Vespa, but distinguished by a double headlight.

  • A special version of the "Dragster" model, which is equipped with a single-arm cantilever swingarm, a trellis frame and hydropneumatic suspension, giving it an extremely futuristic appearance.

The future of the brand is currently (October 2023) written in the stars. The KSR Group had to file for insolvency in September 2023.
