Overview HYOSUNG

KR Motors Co, Ltd is a major South Korean manufacturer of motorised two-wheelers with a history dating back to HYOSUNG Motors, founded in 1978. The company retains the established brand name "HYOSUNG", despite various business takeovers and changes. With a market share of around 40% in its home country and a strong export business to over 60 countries, including mainly Germany, France and Spain in Europe, as well as the USA and Australia, KR Motors is asserting itself as a leader in the industry.

HYOSUNG model history

Engine's product range is broad, with a particular focus on the production of various classes of motorbikes and scooters. They offer a variety of motorbikes and scooters covering different displacement classes, including 50cc scooters.

In 2023, the German importer of KR Engines has reduced its product range and now only offers two engine variants: the tried-and-tested 125 cc unit and a 300 cc model, which is currently the engine with the largest displacement in the range. Both engines fulfil the Euro 5 emissions standard. Production of the larger 650 and 700 cc motorbikes, including the AQUILA and ST 700i models, has been discontinued as the necessary adaptations to the current emissions regulations would be too cost-intensive. KR Motors does not currently export any scooters. Nevertheless, the company is showing a willingness to innovate, having already developed a hybrid scooter model and is increasingly focussing its strategy on electrically powered two-wheelers. Engine's main focus is currently on the Southeast Asian economic region.

However, the old models such as the SF 50 are still occasionally seen on German roads.
