BULTACO was once founded by Don Paco Bultó, the grandfather of the famous Spanish racing driver Sete Gibernau. From 1958 to 1983, the company, based in Sant Adrià de Besòs, Catalonia, produced motorbikes. in 2014, Bultaco Engine S.L. announced its intention to revitalise the brand and enter the electric motorbike and light motor vehicle market from 2015.
The company's motorbikes, often powered by single-cylinder two-stroke engines, were particularly popular in motorsport, including trials and road racing. Famous models included the Sherpa, Alpina, Frontera and Pursang. In total, BULTACO designed almost 250 different models and produced around 330,000 of them. Some of these motorbikes are now valuable collector's items, and many are still used in historic races.
