Conversion to 10 inch 100 mm front & rear
- at SIP Scootershop
100 tyres are about 1.2 cm wider than the standard 3.50-10" tyres on most Vespas. If you want to safely use this first stage of wide tyres on a Vespa, you need slightly wider rims to ensure a secure fit on the rim flange.
Which Vespa models can I convert to 100 mm wide tyres?
In principle, all Vespa models with 10" rim open or with built-in PX engine.
The Vespa Cosa 125-200 run on 100 mm wide tyres as standard.
How can I convert my Vespa to 100 mm wide tyres?
There is a choice of steel rims in grey and silver paint as well as our SIP tubeless rims in the size 2.50-10". We recommend using a maximum of 100/90-10 tyres. No work on the engine or frame is necessary!
Compared to the 2.10" rim, there is a minimal track offset on the left side, but this is negligible and hardly noticeable. If the rim is used on the front or rear wheel, there is no offset. Then there is only a minimal eccentricity.
However, if the clutch cover or steering column is tight, the spacer kit rim from SIP Performance can be used to offset the wheels slightly in the track without losing the centring of the rims.
Tubeless rim or 2-piece steel rim?
With the SIP 2.0 Tubeless rim, tyres can be ridden without inner tubes. In case of damage, a sudden loss of air is prevented, the air pressure drops slowly. Burst inner tubes are a thing of the past. Even a valve rupture or a plate caused by the inner tube getting stuck are a thing of the past. The tubeless double hump rim design prevents the tyre from sliding into the rim well in case of air loss.
The advantages of the SIP rim at a glance
2.50-10, the ideal size for 100/80 and 100/90 tyres.
All tyres from 3.00/3.50 to 100/90-10 fit on this rim.
Fits all 10" brake drums, including PX'98 star brake drums and GRIMECA disc brake drums.
Which tyre should I use?
Apart from the width, the height of the tyre is also decisive, as it influences the transmission ratio of the rear tyre. 100/90-10 has almost the same rolling circumference as an original 3.50-10 tyre. 100/80-10 has almost the same rolling circumference as a 3.00-10. The combination 100/80-10 front and 100/90-10 rear is popular.
Tyres | Width | Circumference | Percent |
---|---|---|---|
3.00-10 | 76.2 mm | 1235 mm | -6 % |
3.50-10 | 88.9 mm | 1307 mm | 0 % |
100/80-10 | 100 mm | 1259 mm | -4 % |
100/85-10 | 100 mm | 1289 mm | -1 % |
100/90-10 | 100 mm | 1319 mm | 1 % |
Other decision criteria
Of course, the tyre type must also be considered. Whether classic tyres, all-weather tyres or sports tyres, there is a wide choice here. In addition, the load capacity and speed index play an important role. We recommend our comprehensive Guide to tyres.
