Vespa rims are designed with a two-piece construction so that it is easy to change the tyre yourself. Another advantage is that the Vespa usually has the same rim on both the front and the rear. This makes carrying a spare wheel particularly worthwhile, as the rim can then be used on either the front or rear axle. In principle, the rim should be checked every time the tyre is changed. Rust in the rim bed is often the reason for leaking tubes.
