Conversion kits: Brake for Lambretta
- at SIP Scootershop
With any engine tuning, you should never forget to upgrade the chassis and brakes as well. If you want to accelerate faster, you have to be able to brake better. Even a Lambretta can be converted to disc brakes. Apart from the 175 to 200 series 3 and DL/GP Lambrettas, they are only equipped with drum brakes as standard, which can reach their limits during sporty inserts or longer pass rides. Here, an update of the brakes makes sense in any case. A disc brake in combination with a radial brake calliper is the best possible setup in terms of braking.
How do I find the right parts to upgrade the brakes on my Lambretta?
You are now in the large section for brakes: Lambretta conversion kits. To narrow down the selection of products even further, you can now select the exact type of vehicle for which you are planning a conversion. For example, if you are interested in everything to do with "Lambretta DL/GP", then make this selection and the display will be much more specific and tailored to you. Using the filters in the left-hand navigation, you can sort by "brands", "use" and other criteria. If you remove the vehicle type filter, e.g. "Lambretta DL/GP", the entire range for the vehicle category Classic Vespa is displayed. This is always helpful if you are not sure of the vehicle type of the scooter you are travelling with.

The different models at Lambretta
Lambretta A/B/C/D/E/F/J/Lui
We have combined the early Kardan models and the "Smallframe" models into one group. There are no brake discs that could be converted for these models.
Lambretta DL/GP
The last version of the classic Lambretta designed by Bertone. Available with drum and disc brake. Many identical parts to the Series 3.
Lambretta Series 1/2
Early series of Lambrettas with chain drive. Technically very similar to the later models, but packaged in a rounder, more curved sheet metal dress. Always with drum front and rear. Late models in particular have many overlaps with the Series 3.
Lambretta Series 3
First "slimline" Lambretta. The LI gets a narrower silhouette. Mainly supplied with drum brakes. The TV 175 3° (later TV200 and SX 200) was the first two-wheeler with front disc brakes in series production.

Front & rear disc brake
A disc brake is a must for every tuned scooter. Unfortunately, the braking power of the original drum brakes is usually manageable. The dosing is also much better with a disc brake. Premium disc brakes are popular with Lambretta riders. The anti-dive system decouples the braking torque from the suspension.
Conversion to radial brake caliper
Radial brake callipers are state-of-the-art in motorbike construction. So it's no wonder that radial brakes are now popular not only in racing but also on the road.

Customers ask - SIP answers
"How do I find the right brake hose for my conversion kit?"
There is a wide range of brake hoses in our range. In the Lambretta range, they are needed when the front brake system is converted to full hydraulics. The length and version required varies greatly depending on the conversion. It is best to measure the exact length of the required version on the vehicle. Then check the position of the connections and select the correct banjos for installation.

Legal or not legal - that is the question here
We have marked many brake parts "For racing purposes only", as this is a modification of the chassis. An optimisation of the brake system that leads to better braking performance is certainly welcomed by all test centres.
If you want to use your brake conversion legally in road traffic, you should always consult a TÜV office. Many items, such as brake discs and brake pads as well as brake callipers, have a KBA number and can therefore be used legally on German roads. If in doubt, clarify conversions to oversize or radial brake pumps. In any case, we recommend that you have your brakes fitted by qualified personnel if you do not feel able to do so yourself.
