Clutches for Vespa Smallframe - at SIP Scootershop
Kangaroo petrol in the tank? At the latest when your Vespa can only be started with a bounce, it is essential to check the clutch. As the link between the crankshaft and the gearbox, it is often exposed to high forces and wear. A well-functioning clutch should avoid unnecessary slippage, produce as little wear as possible and be optimally controllable. With the smallframe engines, the clutch - unlike the PX version - is a somewhat delicate matter. Although there are no problems in terms of durability, it is often difficult to find the right balance between separation and slippage.

One or six springs?
There are two types of clutch on the Smallframes:
Vespa 50-125/PV/ET3/PK50-125/S/XL
Comes with a central spring. This is installed in almost all Smallframes, but in the sport versions it is difficult for girls' hands to pull.
Vespa PK50 XL FL/HP/XL2/PK125 N/XL2
With 6 small springs: the "Cosa" clutch for smallframes from the newer models. Fits all Smallframe models when the cover is machined and with the matching pressure plate. Pulling the clutch is a pleasure. Perfect basis for any tuning engine.

Sport, Race or High End?
The clutches differ as follows:

Standard
1:1 replacement for standard motors, usually clutches with three cork linings.

Sport
To be able to transmit more power, more friction is needed in the clutch. Stronger springs lead to more contact pressure, more linings to a larger friction surface. Therefore, four cork linings and reinforced springs are the order of the day here.

Race
This is for all those who have more steam and for whom the sport clutches slip. They are available as carbon linings with even better grip or with 5-6 clutch linings. In the high-end range, all other components are usually also reworked or give way to new designs. These top-quality components work flawlessly even at 35 hp.
How do I find the right clutch for my Smallframe Vespa?

Customers ask - SIP answers
"Will the PK XL clutch fit my old Smallframe?"
Yes, and it works perfectly there too. The pressure plate for the XL2 must also be ordered. The clutch cover must be slightly reworked or you can use the SIP clutch cover. With some primary ratios, the cover plate or the primary basket must be turned out a little.
