Tuning kits with TÜV
for Vespa Classic at SIP Scootershop
Plug & Play in a new dimension. With our parts approval kits, we now offer you the pearls of our years of tuning experience road-legally through all-round carefree packages for registration in the vehicle documents.
For the parts certificate tuning kits we have selected the favourite combinations of the SIP team and many customers. They are real upgrades for the aged designs of Vespa engines. Whether with SIP Road or our classic SIP Performance resonance exhaust - the kits are always significantly sportier than the original, but still touring-friendly and quiet, partly due to double-walled exhaust and with enough ground clearance and harmonious, early power delivery. Also included are many effective small parts such as the float chamber with larger needle valve and the special throttle slide, which make it easy to get started even for those who are not familiar with fine tuning in detail.
Article with SIP parts certificate (TGA)
If you present this document to an inspection organisation (e.g. GTÜ, DEKRA, TÜV ...), the inspector (test engineer/officially recognised expert) can transfer the values for noise, power and maximum speed directly into the confirmation of the modification acceptance. You save time and money for these measurements, which usually amount to several hundred euros. With this confirmation, you can then have the changes entered in the vehicle documents at the registration office and from now on you are completely legal on the road with more power!
Please state the chassis number of your vehicle (FIN/VIN) when ordering! The inspector (e.g. GTÜ, DEKRA, TÜV ...) will then check whether the components are installed as described in the certificate and will collect or archive the underlying parts certificate. The VIN on which the TGA is issued does not have to be in the area of use of the certificate, i.e. a certificate for Malossi 210 can also be issued on the VIN of a PX80 ("V8X1T..."). The issuing of TGAs to a single chassis number serves as copy protection.
Please use the free text field at the end of the online order to enter your VIN or add it to your order by phone. The parts certificate article cannot be sent to you without the VIN.
For combinations of performance-enhancing components, please note the tuning kits we have put together for you (e.g. 1010410H). The parts certificates contained therein describe the joint installation of all parts included in the scope of delivery.
Attention with multiple modifications
If, for example, you properly install a Polini 177 cylinder with TGA (14000800H) in an original Vespa PX before '89, the inspector should accept the modification according to the certificate and issue you with a corresponding confirmation. If you also install a different primary gear ratio or another additional performance-enhancing part (multiple modification), the maximum speed of the vehicle theoretically changes compared to the certificate. In this case, the expert may no longer accept the values from the expert opinion and say that he must measure again.
It is therefore often advisable to carry out changes and entries in a certain order. E.g. with an oldie Vespa like a VNA:
First install a PX-200 engine in its original condition.
Then register the original PX values (noise, power, displacement ...) in the papers of the VNA.
Then retrofit the Malossi cylinder and show up for another test with the parts certificate. Although the VNA is not included in the scope of the Malossi-210 parts certificate, the engine (engine number) installed in the VNA (PX200) is described in the TGA of the cylinder. Often the expert understands this and then takes over the values of the PX 200 parts certificate also for the VNA with the PX200 engine from the example.
Even if you combine two individual items that BOTH have a TGA, e.g. racing cylinder and racing exhaust SIP-Performance, the expert may insist on new measurements. This is because the values of the TGA exhaust are based on use with the original cylinder and the values of the TGA racing cylinder are based on the original exhaust. Neither expert opinion states how the two modifications together affect the engine.
Good to know
Every inspection organisation (e.g. GTÜ, DEKRA, TÜV ...) may carry out modification inspections in accordance with §19(3) StVZO.
Only the Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV in the old federal states, DEKRA in the new federal states) is allowed to carry out individual assessments according to §19(2) StVZO - soon technical services (e.g. GTÜ) will also be allowed to carry out individual assessments.
Since first registration on 01.01.1989, vehicles have to comply with ECE-R 40 (exhaust emission regulations); as this is time-consuming and expensive to re-measure, we have not carried out these exhaust emission measurements for engine modifications (e.g. cylinders). For this reason, our parts certificates often exclude vehicles registered after 01.01.1989 from the area of use.
We have made the experience that entries in the vehicle documents usually work without problems if they are properly prepared:
You should have spoken to the expert in advance.
The vehicle should be in a proper, operational condition; especially the brakes when it comes to the acceptance of performance upgrades.
The modifications should be easily recognisable and comprehensible to the inspector (documents ready and modified vehicle parts exposed and clean, identification numbers easily recognisable, etc.).
Even if your vehicle has been modified according to the installation instructions and you show up at the inspection station with a parts certificate, the inspector may refuse to register your vehicle because, for example, the general condition of the vehicle is too poor, the brakes do not work or the lights, indicators, horn, etc. are defective. It is not enough to install the performance-enhancing parts and carry the parts certificate with you. The conversion must be approved by an expert (test certificate) and entered in the vehicle documents.
