Conversion Kits: Chassis for Classic Vespa
- at SIP Scootershop
The chassis can and must be modified for various reasons. The more powerful the engine, the better the chassis must be. The older the scooters are, the worse it is from the manufacturer's side. Then, even with the original engine settings, riding is only fun to a limited extent. And there is another reason that should not be neglected: the appearance. Many of the conversion options catapult the scooters out of the mainstream and into the extravagant, and that is always an argument.
For which classic Vespas are there conversion kits for the chassis?
Chassis conversions are very special and not possible for every classic Vespa. In order to facilitate the clarity of this complex topic, we recommend limiting the search to your vehicle type. For example, if you are looking for a conversion kit for a Vespa 180 SS, select "Classic Vespa" in the category and "Vespa 160 GS/180 SS" for the vehicle type. Now you will only see the products that come into question for this Vespa.
These classic Vespas can be converted
Vespa 98/125/150/GS -`56
The Vespa 150 GS VS5T runs on open 10" Rims and can therefore be fitted with everything that is available. However, we have only explicitly listed the beautiful 11" Conversion Kits here and not everything that is possible in the 10" range to minimise confusion.

Conversion from 8" to 10" front & rear tyres (only applies to the PX Exotic P150S)
What chassis conversions are available for Classic Vespa?
Conversion to 10'' 110-130 mm rear tyres
The classic Wide Tyre conversion for Largeframe Vespas. The rear wheel can be converted to a width of 130 mm or the mighty tyre circumference of a 120`90-10 Tyre. A modification of the Engine Swing Arm Pivot is necessary for this.
Conversion to 10" 100 mm front & rear tyres
100 Tyres are approx. 1.2 cm wider than the standard 3.50-10" tyres on most Vespas. If you want to safely use this first stage of Wide Tyres on a Vespa, you need slightly wider rims to ensure safe contact with the rim flange.
Conversion to 10" front & rear tyres
With original 8" or 9" tyres, potholes turn into pits, the Vespa will bottom out in bends and flutter at high speeds. Converting to 10" Tyres brings a significant improvement here. Conversion forks, conversion rims or brake drum conversion kits are the solution here.
Conversion to 10" ZIP Rim front & rear
A simple but aesthetically outstanding and sporty update of the classic Vespa models at a high technical level. The classic Brake Drum makes room for ZIP ET30 5/86 rims with the help of Wheel Hubs/Brake Drum Seating.
Conversion to 11" front & rear
The Rim with sizes 2.50-11 and 3.00-11 is the ultimate solution for Wide Tyre conversions and the latest addition to the SIP Wide Tyre conversion kits. The 11" conversion is discreet, harmonious and only catches the eye at second glance.
Conversion to 12" front & rear tyres
Glorious Basterd - Life begins with 12". Weeks of development and many, many prototypes were necessary to develop a conventional solution for the Vespa community. Problems such as tracking, steering behaviour and frame spacing were successfully solved. The result is better chassis quality thanks to more ground clearance and optimised directional stability. In addition, the 12" wheels are an absolute eye-catcher and extend the gear ratio.
Conversion to ZIP/ET4 suspension
When using a PIAGGIO ZIP SP Steering Column, the Suspension Arm is positioned on the left-hand side. The larger selection of high-end Shock Absorbers (all from the PIAGGIO ZIP) with a large Fluid Reservoir External, the shortened wheelbase and the modified geometry are the major advantages of this Steering Column. Added to this is the strikingly different look.
Conversion from 10" to 8" rear tyres
Various 8" Tyres are available for classic Vespas front and rear. Also available as complete tyres.

Customers ask - SIP answers
"Can I do the conversions myself or do I need a specialist workshop?"
As with most conversions on classic scooters, you can do it yourself. The conversions are not so complicated that you need to be trained as a bike mechanic. Many of the kits are ready to install. However, you should not have two left hands. But the beauty of Vespa and customising is that it's model building in a big way. If you are unsure, lack tools or simply don't have the time, then we recommend going to a tuning workshop. We can also recommend one if you don't know any in the area.
