SIL - SCOOTERS INDIA LIMITED
SIL - Scooters India Limited is a state-owned company that was founded in 1972 and has its Seat in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The company initially gained prominence through the production of scooters, especially under the brand name Lambretta, which it took over from the Italian company Innocenti. SIL's well-known products included the Lambretta, Lamby, Vijai Super, Vikram and Lambro models.
In 1997, SIL shifted its focus completely to the manufacture of three-wheeled vehicles and discontinued the production of two-wheelers. The company was known for its three-wheeler models Vikram and Lambro, which were used for both passenger and goods transport. Despite its historical importance, SIL struggled with financial difficulties for many years. These continuing losses led to the decision to Lock the company in January 2021, which was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
