In our new 100-page Catalogue, we present everything you need to know about the popular and coveted Wideframe Vespaswhich were built by Corradino D'Ascanio and his team for Piaggio between 1946 and 1961. The unmistakable features of the series include the delicate contours of the Casing and the gently rounded, curved rear end. Also characteristic of the production series is the inspection flap located in the step-through, which offers a very wide centre tunnel under the Seat. A tubular handlebar, the carburettor flap in the frame and the Engine Swing Arm Pivots, which were mounted separately from the engine at the time, are further typical features of the series. The headlight was also initially located on the Mudguard, but was later mounted on the tubular handlebars. The most distinctive feature, however, is the design of the strikingly large frames, which were much wider than those of subsequent generations. A characteristic feature that every Vespa fan is familiar with under the name "Wideframe".

Tuning for the old ladies

The popularity of wideframe tuning is steadily increasing. The charismatic tubular handlebar Vespas are often kept in garages as collector's items or only used for short trips, as they lack the confidence in their old engines for longer journeys. The low engine output of 2-3 hp is inadequate for today's road traffic. In recent years, however, a small scene of resourceful hobbyists has developed around the "Faro Basso", optimising the original engines, replacing various components and thus improving performance.

Tuning can start with a sports exhaust system, which offers an increase in performance. Standard Carburettors, Air Filters and Intake Manifolds can be replaced with a POLINI CP Carburettor Kit. The use of modern aluminium cylinders from PINASCO enables a significant increase in performance. A 4-speed gearbox from PINASCO and a contactless 12 V ignition can also be installed to transfer the extra power to the road and avoid ignition problems.

The suspension and brake system should not be neglected when tuning. High-quality Shock Absorbers from SIP PERFORMANCE, tubeless 8-inch rims and brake components offer optimum driving and braking performance. Enjoy reading the catalogue!
