High End Tuning for Largeframe Vespa
There is no substitute for engine capacity. The oldest wisdom of combustion engine design - except for even more displacement! BFA has taken this principle to the extreme and offers an engine for the Vespa Largeframe models with 306 cc displacement. No stone was left unturned in the process. Engine housing, cylinders, crankshaft - everything has been newly developed and adapted to the needs of a 306 cc high-end engine. The result takes Vespa tuning to a new level. Power, torque and range are more comparable to a motocross bike than a Vespa scooter.
The BFA 306 engineand the individual parts of the set are among the most exclusive engines available for classic manual scooters. This does not only refer to the price, but also to the quality of materials and workmanship at the highest level. Above all, however, the driving performance that is possible with these components represents the absolute pinnacle. And all this in the space of the original engine of the Vespa Largeframe models.
Years ago, Ale and Fabio from Parma, Italy, contacted us: they were tinkering around with a 306 cc engine for the Vespa PX. At that time, it was still called BSG. Nevertheless, we were amazed when the first 306 cc parts arrived in spring 2018. Here at SIP Scootershop, we are used to a lot, as parts and ideas from the worldwide scene arrive weekly. However, the 306 cc parts have led to a flurry of activity internally here that was reminiscent of a Christmas gift-giving. The engine housing, together with the crankshaft and cylinder, promises to fulfil all tuner's dreams at once. High performance, sporty touring or simply more fun on the daily commute to work and being able to sleep ten minutes longer.
After Jesco had built a sprint scooter for the Tacho Karacho 2018 race , it quickly became clear: dreams become reality. Within a few days, the engine was assembled and with only a few dyno runs to tune the carburettor and ignition, there was a first promising result: 55 hp at the rear wheel, frightening torque, super smooth and, above all, an incredibly wide band. What happens when you take a closer look at the engine and how far the limits of its possibilities are set, only further tests will show.
Have other engines cracked the 50 hp mark? True, but not many. And few have the necessary tuning experience. Here, enormous performance is achieved almost with Plug&Play. And we hope to scratch the 70 hp mark with the engine. We also believe that with this setup it is possible to build a Vespa engine that is suitable for touring, but with 40-50 hp and more.
Again Ale and Fabio approached us. "Our true passion is smallframe". Family and professional changes came along. In addition, the 306 cc project gained so much momentum that they could no longer handle it alone. Under no circumstances should this marvel disappear on the shelves like so many other BFA Lambretta or Smallframe projects. That's why SIP Scootershop has now taken over the 306 project from BFA and since then has continued to stock it under SIP BFA .
The range is now being expanded. The indestructible engine housings with the massive, smooth-running crankshaft can also be used as an upgrade for 125-200 large-frame engines. This is the resilient and smooth-running engine that Vespa tuners have been wanting since the 80s. Therefore, the housing comes with the right dimensions for Vespa cylinders in different displacement classes. In addition, there is a 225 cc version and variants that are already equipped with the overflows of the MHR Malossi cylinders.
The noblest way to put a wolf in sheep's clothing remains the 306. It is not for the average Vespa rider.
