Vespa & Lambretta Acceleration Race TACHO KARACHO 21 July 2018 Report
Landsberg is tranquil, beautifully situated on the Lech with a view of the Alps. It goes without saying that people like to ride Vespa and Lambretta in the home of SIP. The stylish means of transport fits into an area where good things are appreciated, from the food to the choice of vehicle.
Last Saturday, however, it was over for a few hours with tranquillity and relaxed cruising with elegant scooters from the 60s. Far away, the melody of racing engines could be heard over an industrial area in the north-west of the city. Sweeter than the scent of the blooming Lech meadows, the smell of high-performance two-stroke engines drifted through the air and the atmosphere was filled with crackling racing excitement.
All caused by the very classic motor scooters that one likes to see in front of Landsberg's ice cream parlours in summer. Better from what the demands of a race have left of such a scooter.

It was showtime at the gates of the SIP Scootershop. "Tacho Karacho", an acceleration race for manual scooters only, took place for the first time in the centre of Landsberg. The fastest scooters from German-speaking countries came to the event. The race was a competition for the German Tin Scooter Championship "DBM", so it was a must for every self-respecting tuner.
To give the event the right atmosphere, the organisers took every precaution: the spectators were informed about the course of the race and the results by Hannes Bichteler (Sport1) and large LED displays. The race was broadcast live via Facebook for the entire duration of the event and there were plenty of opportunities for drivers and spectators to sit down for a pizza or a drink in between. Some riders took advantage of the SIP dynamometer, the record holder on the day was a Vespa with 62 hp!
Unfortunately, only the weather did not favour the event. After weeks of sunshine, it was supposed to rain again for the first time on this Saturday. Despite the bad weather forecast, more than 500 visitors came to the trackside. Really a good number under these conditions. Unfortunately, it rained lightly all morning until the race had to be interrupted in the early afternoon for about half an hour due to heavy rain. But after a new start, it stayed dry until the end.
Unfortunately, the wet conditions affected the number of riders. In the predicted continuous rain, only the experienced riders wanted to line up at the start. Although this was enough for a very well-staffed and sufficiently filled starting field, the organisers had hoped in advance to be able to motivate many new starters to try their hand at the starting lights.

The conditions at the beginning of the race were then also a challenge to the skills of the riders. Many runs started with spectacular slides or drifts. Fortunately, without any of the riders getting injured.
At the end of the day, a high-class and exciting race lay behind drivers and spectators. The acceleration values achieved in the fast classes left most sports bikes behind and with 6.7 seconds over 150m, a new German record was set. At the same time, the highest speed after the short distance was 132 km/h. It was Matthias Brugger who took the crown on this day.

An event that demands a repeat, because sometimes they like it a bit harder, faster, louder in Landsberg am Lech too. But then with Italian flair and style, please.
