To school in a Vespa saloon car
A few years ago, Trevor Woolfson, a partner at Vespa South Africa, vented his anger about the morning traffic jam and travelling to school with his three children with an extraordinary idea: he built the world's first Vespa saloon!
The basis for this one-off was the GTS250ie, which was assembled from three Vespas to create a completely new vehicle. In Johannesburg, South Africa, Trevor worked with Sandton Body and Paint and Vespa Wynberg to realise the project. An extremely robust subframe and precise adjustments ensured that all the parts fitted together perfectly.

Vespa GTS250 as the basis
Powered by a standard GTS250 Engine, the cooling system and all the wiring has been extended to continue working perfectly. The riding experience? A little tricky at low speeds, but from 30 km/h the saloon shows just how much potential it has. The Reinforcement suspension handles the extra weight effortlessly - further proof of the stability of the Vespa with its metal monocoque frame.
When the vehicle was shown to the public for the first time, it immediately attracted everyone's attention. Enthusiastic onlookers asked questions about its creation and function - and were amazed when they learnt that it was actually used regularly. However, the Vespa saloon remains a one-off and will probably never go into series production.
Road legal? Well, that was a tricky question even back then ..
