SIP Scootershop at the Engine Bike Expo Verona 2025

We set off across the Alps in the grey south of Germany in January to look at scooters, or rather two-wheelers - even if this time the sun wasn't waiting for us on the other side of the mountain range. We were called by our friend Gegio and the "Engine Bike Expo 2025" (24 to 26 January) in beautiful Verona. A trade fair that has already made a lot of noise and that we absolutely had to take a closer look at.

Engine Bike Expo in Verona is the second largest motorbike trade fair in Italy - just behind the world's largest of its kind, EICMA in Milan. However, the MBE has a different focus and appeals to a slightly different audience. This trade fair is aimed at riders, Screws and enthusiasts who want to experience more than just presentation and representation. This is about show, about the scene, about subcultures. The exhibitors are customisers, tuners, painters, race series organisers, manufacturers of Replacement Parts or even sellers of second-hand leather jackets. But the big players are also represented: Some manufacturers will be showing their programme and their new products. Whether chopper, motocross, sports motorbike, tourer or, of course, scooter - everyone is sure to meet their customers here.

No boredom with Vespa and Lambretta

In terms of size alone, the difference to the EICMA is hardly noticeable. Six huge exhibition halls are packed to the brim with stands. It is hardly possible to see everything in three days. Several arenas are set up on the open-air site. There are various stunt shows, obstacle courses and even a motocross track. Visitors are catered for by a myriad of food stalls, which are completely overrun at lunchtime. 170.000 visitors are attracted to the fair, Saturday in particular is crunch time. The aisles between the stands look like a sunny Oktoberfest weekend. But the atmosphere is good. There is more than enough to see for every taste. Instead of boredom, there is more concern about having visited all the interesting stands.

In 2025, a special programme item was further expanded. Gegio from Scooterismo.it and a few friends are organising a custom show for classic Gear Pulleys under the motto "Iron Kings". The whole thing will take place in a hall with the motto "Ruote Piccole" - meaning "small wheels". This hall is home to a large number of manufacturers of tuning parts and Replacement Parts, especially for the Vespa Smallframe. But Vespa and Lambretta clubs will also be exhibiting, as will organisers of racing series. Of course, we have also set up our SIP stand here. We are located between the "Age of Scootercross", a racing series for automatic scooters, and Lauro Caforio from Falc.

The custom show in the centre of the hall is not very big, but it is beautifully presented and the exhibits are of high quality. However, some very elaborately built Vespa smallframe models have to concede victory to two truly exceptional scooters whose concept and history are unique.

Lambretta with two Cylinders

There is, for example, the Lambretta by Luciano Albieri - a two-cylinder conversion based on the SX-200 from 1970, realised at the time using only parts from the Innocenti range. 350 cc based on two 175 cc TV cylinders. Not only is the Engine special, the scooter is a "racer" conversion: Vega Legshield, Lambro Handlebars and a racing hump give the one-off a look familiar from English racing series of later decades. Simply a conversion that was ahead of its time, as well as being very beautiful and technically sophisticated - in short: spectacular.

The second treat comes from Francesco Gaetani. He presents his Vespa "Super Sport 125" - a replica of the legendary racing Vespas from the Piaggio factory from the 1950s. What makes it special: He has recreated the entire frame from aluminium by hand. To do this, he also rebuilt several parts and special technical solutions that Piaggio once produced in small series for its racing vehicles. Francesco has immortalised the original signatures of the factory riders of the time on the front Mudguard. There are also some of his own interpretations of the theme, such as the design of the Exhaust, which give the whole thing a personal touch and the right flavour.

All in all, it can be said that both the "Ruote Piccole" hall with its focus on scooters and the entire trade fair - the MBE or Motorbike Expo - were well worth seeing. An excellent opportunity to shorten the grey days in the middle of winter and get inspired for the new season. And besides, it's always fun to ride over the Alps, even if, for once, the sun isn't shining at this time of year.

The winners of the custom show:

1.luciano Albieri: Worlds 1st Bicilinder Lambretta SX200 - 350 ccm
2. Francesco Gaetani: Vespa Super Sport 125
3. Racing Team S.M.: Vespa Red Bull m200
