When it comes to the style and look of a Vespa, Lambretta, Ape, moped, e-scooter or e-bike, it's not just the right parts that matter, but also their colour. And there is no accounting for taste, because every rider wants to make an individual statement with the colours he or she chooses. The possibilities for colouring are almost limitless. In the following, we would like to explain how we at SIP Scootershop deal with the variety of colours. Welcome to our fa(r)bel world.

A little colour theory with SIP Scootershop

Without going into too much detail and opening a colourful can of worms, it can be said that scholars such as da Vinci, Goethe, Schopenhauer or Newton, to name but a few, each in their own way, have dealt with the world of colours. If you want to deal with it in depth, you can plan on spending a few years. We, on the other hand, will keep it short and have decided on a colour palette: RAL. As early as 1927, the Reichsausschuss für Lieferbedingungen (RAL) defined 40 colour shades and named them clearly by numbers. Today, the 2,540 RAL colours are a worldwide standard for industry, crafts and design. Sounds like a lot, but when you consider that the human eye can distinguish around ten million colours, we've only just scratched the surface here. We make it even easier for you, because we have decided to use the RAL K7 CLASSIC colour chart, which defines 216 colours with number and name.

Why does SIP Scootershop use RAL colours?

We have tried to establish a certain standard in our shop. Therefore we try to match all products from suppliers to the RAL colour shades. Photos can almost never reflect the exact colour tone as you will see it on your scooter in the end. Therefore, we refrain from subjective perceptions such as "light grey" or "dark grey", but try to determine the exact colour shade using the RAL CLASSIC colour chart. The colours can be found on the internet or you can use the colour chart that we offer in the shop. An investment for the rest of your life.

When we have our own products manufactured under the labels SIP SPARE PARTS, SIP PORDOI or SIP PERFORMANCE, the partners receive exact specifications as to which colours from the RAL CLASSIC series should be used. Then you can be one hundred percent sure that the colour specified in the shop is correct.

Rubber parts: Handles, brake pedals etc.

The search for RAL 7032 pebble grey

Using RAL 7032 pebble grey as an example, we show you how to find the parts and match them exactly. Because, of course, the grey of the side cover rubber should harmonise with that of the brake pedal. Pebble grey is also a good choice if, for example, you want your Vespa VBB to have the same colour. If you enter the following in the online shop search: "RAL 7032 pebble grey", you will be shown all the products that we have available in this colour. In this way, you can perfectly match the colour of your scooter.

Which grey matches my scooter?

  • Pebble, agate and silk grey rubbers look good on Vespas with original paint because they are closer to the colour of weathered rubber.

  • Light grey rubbers go well on restored and newly painted scooters.

Using the handles from the SIP PORDOI series as an example, you can see which different shades of brown we have chosen from the RAL COLOUR PALLET. You can now also match the other frame parts. In this case: chestnut brown RAL 8015, signal brown RAL 8002 and orange brown RAL 8023.

Accessories: seats, bags etc.

With these large, eye-catching pieces, the choice of colour is even more important, because the seat should visually match the SIP Classic bag. Here, too, the photos in the online shop can be deceptive, but don't let that put you off. Just follow the RAL names and numbers and you'll be on the safe side. Here are three examples with signal brown RAL 8002.

The new trend: matt silver

Take a look at the Rally 200 that Alex has built up over the years. What do the rims, shock absorbers and brake callipers have in common, for example? They are finished in subtle matt silver, the ultimate colour for understatement. For a while now, we have been putting on technically high-quality parts in this shade and they are practically the balancing act between standard chrome silver and a vintage look.

Vintage par excellence: Patina Look

Especially owners of scooters from the 50s, 60s and 70s will be happy about our new accessories, which look like a barn find thanks to a handmade patina . Here we work together with Tore Sambatario, who calls himself the "Patina Pope". He refines every single part by hand using secret methods. Whether shock absorbers, handles, side mirrors and more - everything is "Made in Germany" by Tore.

Anodised Frame Parts

The artful use of colour accents is crucial for an appealing aesthetic. It is advisable to use vibrant colours selectively and not excessively in order to avoid an inconsistent appearance. A combination of bold and subtle colours, such as the interplay of orange or blue with matt grey, creates a balanced contrast. Accentuating functional components, for example by anodising Bra ke Calipers, highlights important vehicle parts and contributes to the aesthetics at the same time. It is important to achieve a coherent design that gives the overall appearance a professional touch. Anodising also offers the opportunity to express individual styles and give the vehicle a personal touch.
