Created by Dietrich Limper at 09:12 on December 24, 2024

The name Max Quattrini is one of the best known and most respected in the world of classic Vespa tuning. His tuning forge near Parma is known for developments and innovations at the highest level. His first Racing Cylinder changed the world of smallframe tuning just as much as his Crankcases. So it was high time Jesco made his way to Italy to pay him a visit. On site, he was able to see how Max Quattrini develops cylinders. In conversation, Jesco learnt how it all began and what Max has planned for the future.

From baker to engineer

There's never been an episode of our "Sexiest Workshops" series that doesn't feature a Vespa or Lambretta. Thanks to Max's enchanting daughter-in-law Alessia, who steps in as interpreter, the two talk shop about the favourite topic in the Quattrini household: Cylinders. The maestro talks about the early days of his work, when he toiled away at the crack of dawn in the bakery at home and then set off for his second job at Eurocilindro, where he eventually made it to head of development - but by then he was no longer a baker, because at some point his father realised and said: "Your cylinders are better than your bread - so make cylinders."

Finally, Jesco gets a glimpse behind the scenes at Quattrini. He gets to marvel at software that costs 35,000 euros to update and operate a machine that is also used in Formula 1. The two experts talk in such detail about flow, fresh gas, overflow and even butterflies that the layman gets dizzy.

Conclusion: Watch the video and enjoy the excursion into the world of cylinders "Made in Italy" and developed by Max Quattrini.
