Legal VESPA tuning: everything you need to know about the TÜV certificate for SIP parts

Created by Ralf Jodl at 15:02 on February 11, 2021

Anyone who has ever wanted to tune their VESPA will have noticed that this is not so easy to do without documents. If these are missing, not only the insurance expires, but even the registration of the vehicle. In the field of VESPA tuning, there is the parts certificate and the general operating permit (ABE) or the EU type approval. But what exactly is the difference and what do you have to consider?

The General Operating Permit

The handling of a tuning part with the corresponding EU type approval is relatively simple. It can be fitted directly to the VESPA without any major detours. However, you should always carry the documents that came with the purchase, such as the general operating permit (ABE) and a type approval for each tuning item. This should be accepted by any police officer during a check.

Tip on the general operating permit for VESPA tuning

Despite the ABE certificate, it is possible that different tuning parts may not be installed together. If this were to happen, the operating permit would expire. In case of doubt, it is therefore better to visit one of our expert SIP employees and have the tuning part installed in the VESPA tuning workshop.

The parts certificate

It gets a little more complicated when it comes to the parts certificate. After the tuning part has been professionally installed by yourself or by a specialist company, the assessment of a testing organisation is necessary. Here, TÜV, DEKRA or experts such as GTÜ check whether all data in the parts certificate match the tuning part on the VESPA. In addition, compliance with the specifications, such as functionality and reliability, is checked. If this is confirmed in the so-called modification inspection, these are entered in the vehicle registration certificate (Zulassungsbescheinigung). Here, too, the following applies: Always carry the documents with you!

Legal and safe VESPA tuning by SIP Scootershop

Among the more than 50,000 spare and tuning parts for all types of scooters, there are also highlights that enable quick and uncomplicated tuning of the VESPA. For example, the SIP brake calipers, which have a general operating permit (ABE). They bear the KBA type mark and can therefore be used legally on German roads. The aluminium rims are another eye-catcher. The SIP tubeless rims are tubeless, which prevents sudden air loss in the event of damage. The high-quality produced SIP PERFORMANCE shock absorbers also offer optimal and completely legal VESPA tuning.

Legal tuning kits for VESPA tuning

The jungle of VESPA tuning parts and tuning offers is huge and the possibilities almost endless. That's why SIP Scootershop developed the VESPA tuning kits. Not only have years of experience gone into them, but together with all the small parts, the VESPA tuning kits also offer the ideal combination of sportiness and touring capability. All this in combination with a clear increase in performance and good durability at the same time. With simple assembly, no or only minor changes to the engine housing, the possibility of optional retrofitting and a good price-performance ratio, they are the perfect entry into the world of VESPA tuning.
