E-Scooters: Now also compulsory in Croatia and Portugal
Denmark and Greece have led the way, Croatia and Portugal are now following suit: for a while now, helmets have also been compulsory there when using e-scooters. The Croatians have even extended the law by making it compulsory to wear a high-visibility waistcoat at night and in poor visibility. The reasons given are that more and more city tourists, campers and water sports enthusiasts are getting on the popular e-scooters and have long since stopped riding only the so-called "last mile". This has also been recognised by the French, where helmets are compulsory on roads where the maximum permitted speed is 80 km/h. Whoever violates the rule in Croatia has to pay 300 Croatian kuna, which is about 40 euros. It is also forbidden to exceed the speed limit of 25 km/h (fine around 130 euros) and to use headphones.
Matching helmets for e-scooters at SIP Scootershop
It can be assumed that other countries will follow suit, because e-scooters are gradually leaving the legal grey areas. Perhaps wearing a helmet on an e-scooter actually makes sense, because no one should be unprotected in road traffic.
With us, you can buy helmets that are suitable for e-scooters and bikes for little money. The helmets from Bell and Livall are safe, light and, in the case of Livall, full of the latest technology: from integrated lighting and radio to connection to an app. Just browse through our online shop or get advice directly at our flagship shop. If you want even more safety, we can of course also offer you high-visibility waistcoats.
In development: airbag in the helmet
Motorcyclists have been able to access waistcoats with airbags for some time, even though the system does not seem to be fully developed yet and is still very expensive at the moment. Meanwhile, a Swedish company is experimenting with airbags that are triggered in a helmet and are intended to provide additional protection for the head in the event of a fall. We are keeping a close eye on progress in this market segment and will bring you related articles when we are convinced. We are definitely keeping an eye on this story. In the video linked below, you can see what the state of play is.
