E-bike tuning with the badassBox

We have already explained to you in several tutorials how e-bike tuning works with modules that are installed directly on the motor. But there are also the incredibly practical boxes from the German manufacturer Badass. Here, nothing has to be screwed on and no cables have to be connected. The small box, which is hardly bigger than a matchbox, is used differently.

E-bike tuning for many motors

While the badassBox was initially only developed for Bosch motors, it is now suitable for far more drives: Yamaha, Bafang, Giant, Shimano and many more.

The box is easily placed on the speed sensor. A snap lock ensures a secure hold and a robust housing provides very good protection. Now you just have to align the spoke magnet with the box and everything is done. The box only transmits half the speed to the sensor, so your motor is no longer slowed down at 25 km/h, but at a comfortable 50 km/h. All this can be done in a few simple steps. All this can be done in a few seconds, so that the tuning can be activated and deactivated at any time. The speed is no longer shown correctly on the display, but you will soon get used to that. Or you can treat yourself to a traditional speedometer. The housing contains a 1.5 V AAA battery that provides a range of around 7,000 kilometres. And all of this weighs only about 30 grams and can easily be carried in your pocket.

All you have to do is find out where the sensor is located on your e-bike. You can either attach the badassBox to the chain stay or in the area of the dropout. If you see a storage magnet, the sensor is most likely on the chain stay. As a rule, however, the sensor is easy to detect. Badass produces boxes for almost all sensors, which we can offer you at SIP Scootershop. The badassBox 4 is the latest development and comes with many innovations and improvements: slimmer housing, snap lock, more powerful battery and higher range. The best thing to do is to watch the video linked below, in which the assembly is explained.

It is also important to mention that the badassBox does not interfere with the motor electronics or software. The transmitted signal simply enables the speed increase. The engine itself is not damaged in any way.

Notes

It goes without saying that the badassBox must not be used in road traffic or in the area of effect of the StVO. Use is limited to private property, competitions or test purposes. The use of the badassBox can lead to the loss of the warranty of the e-bike. You act at your own risk and peril.

Firmware

The manufacturer of the badassBox advises against installing firmware updates or upgrades. This often prevents the tuning of the e-bike. During workshop work, care should also be taken to ensure that the software is not changed.

Otherwise, nothing stands in the way of using the badassBox and we wish you lots of fun with it!
