5th World Vespa Meeting Munich May 2024 - 200 Fari Bassi

When the streets of Munich fill up with evening traffic, cars jostle bumper to bumper and the noise of Horns and Engines fills the air, the time of freedom begins for Vespa riders. The scooter comes to life with a characteristic rattling sound. The Vespa sets off, purring effortlessly through the heavy traffic, weaving skilfully between the cars and escaping the hustle and bustle. The journey continues through the narrow streets of the old town, past street cafés where laughter and the clinking of glasses enliven the scene. The scooter accelerates along Leopoldstraße and the city slowly becomes smaller in the rear-view mirror. This is real freedom on two wheels, the kind you can only experience on an old Vespa in Italy's northernmost city.

Vespa fans in Munich: A magical meeting of the "Vespa Oldtimer Friends"

As in 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2010, the "Vespa Oldtimer Freunde München" got together again this year to celebrate the 5th World Vespa Meeting. With more than 200 impressive Faro Basso Vespas, the transport centre of the Deutsches Museum was transformed into a magical Vespa oasis. These included extremely rare and early V98 models, rarities such as two-colour Messerschmidt scooters and much more. Plus cheerful people in the best early summer weather.

Parts of Robin Davy's magnificent Vespa collection, which many of us already know from the video on SIP TV, were presented in the stylish rooms of the museum. This exhibition, which included toys and other curiosities in addition to the Vespas, provided the perfect frame for the meeting. We learnt exciting details directly from Robin about his new book "Il Mondo della Vespa", which he presented on Saturday and which is now exclusively available in our shop!

Sticky was also represented with his book "Manual for Vespa Wideframe" , which is already available in our online shop.

The dealer mile was a paradise for lovers of classic scooters. There were vintage scooters worth several thousand euros, Badges and technical innovations for the Wideframe Vespas to discover. Our brand new Vespa Wideframe Catalogue, packed with over 100 pages of Replacement Parts and spare parts for the Faro Basso Vespas, was very well received. In addition, our customer magazine CURVE celebrated its premiere with the 12th issue and was available free of charge at our stand.

Concours d'Elegance

The Concours d'Elegance was a highlight. Vehicles and drivers were hand-picked by the organisers and presented to the public in detail. Here, visitors were able to learn first-hand about the fascinating stories behind these works of art.

Vespa acrobatics

Robin Davy, the mastermind behind the acrobatic Vespa team, once again impressed with an entertaining and spectacular presentation. The acrobatic troupe of the Vespa Oldtimer Freunde München has been in existence for more than 20 years. They ride exclusively on tubular handlebar Vespas and the acrobatics are based on the tricks that were also performed in Italy in the 50s and 60s. A real journey through time and breathtaking figures entertained the audience. The grand finale was the jump through the ring of fire, performed by one of the youngest participants who showed no nerves at all:

Vespa Corso through Munich

The Corso, a highlight of the event, travelled from Theresienwiese via Hackerbrücke and Königsplatz to the beautiful Karolinenplatz with its large roundabout. Here the corso turned round and the participants met up again. A chaotic and beautiful picture that many riders used to high-five the oncoming riders, a great sight! The Corso was organised under the direction of Pastor Friedemann Plug, known from the Vespa Corso Munich on Ascension Day. The end point was the Bavaria on the Theresienhöhe where all the Vespas lined up for a great final picture. There were musical performances and some emotional words from Pastor Friedemann Plug. Some of our guests who are currently visiting were also able to have their say, including Josh Rogers, President of the Vespa Club USA, known as the "Vespa Collector" and our friend Lome from Bangkok from Vintage Vespa Thai.

Our thanks go to the "Vespa Oldtimer Freunde München" for the perfect organisation of this great event. It was a pleasure and honour for us to be part of this event and to support it as a sponsor. Enjoy the many pictures and our SIP TV video!
