23rd Classic Scooter Run in Norway

Let's continue with the exciting stories from the scene. All over the world, scooterists use the summer to meet, organise rides and party. The latest report reaches us from the far north: Stein Overland from Restless SC in Norway describes the weekend with friends and engines. There was a lot going on at the famous Holmenkollen near Oslo. We thank you for the cool story.

Above the rooftops of Oslo

The national scooter ride in Norway (yes, we only have one national ride a year) is a rally that goes all over the country. This means that it takes place in a different city each year and is organised by a local scooter club. The host of the 23rd Classic Scooter Run was Restless SC in Oslo, and the event took place on the weekend of 2-4 June.

High above the city of Oslo is the Holmenkollen ski jump, a must-see for most tourists who come here, with spectacular views over the city and the Oslofjord. However, if you continue up the road, even higher, you soon reach Frognerseteren Friluftssenter, where the event was held.

This is the third time Restless SC has held the run at this location, and it really is one of the most beautiful places anywhere! A spectacular view, forests all around, an amphitheatre for the bands, the audience and grassy areas for the tents. The participant limit of 230 people was reached long before the weekend, and that is really a large number of scooter riders by Scandinavian standards.

Finally, the weekend was here. All the preparations were made, the goodie bags packed with the contents of our friendly sponsors, and the people started to arrive. Scooter riders from all over, and by the evening the outdoor area was full of new and old friends from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Scotland, England, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Belgium and Denmark.

On Friday night, the DJs spun records and got the party going on the dance floor, and the Swedish band The Men put on a spectacular live set on the outdoor stage. Together with the good food from the grill, drinks from the bar, the late summer evening sun and the fact that it's been years since we met like this, we were a happy bunch of scooter riders who lasted until the early morning.

A Ride, fun and great atmosphere

On Saturday morning, after breakfast, the first thing on the agenda was the ride. The ride took us through the city and to a trail centre near the Oslo Fjord. Here Perry Dear & The Deerstalkers played a great live concert for us while we had a bite to eat and something to drink.

Back at the launch site, the dyno was a hot area with some pretty strong scooter. More good entertainment was also provided at the gymkhana, where riders rode their own scooters as fast as they could around a challenging course in the surrounding terrain, giving us some memorable crashes and laughs! And of course, the barbecue and bar area was bustling all evening with freshly grilled meats and home-brewed beer. Then there was live entertainment again. This time on our second stage, which opened with a surprise performance by Øystein Greni of Bigbang, followed by an excellent second set by our 60s favourites Perry Dear & The Deerstalkers, with Øystein joining the band at the end. What fun and what an atmosphere!

After cooling down a bit, we were able to put a few scooters to the test before it was time for the awards ceremony, with a few surprises and some obvious winners. The final band of the evening was then introduced in a puff of smoke from the burnout of what was probably the first Norwegian Lambretta with a motorbike engine: Los Plantronics, who played their 'Mariachi Death Surf like no other! Another brilliant concert, and then the DJs took over and spun for the dancing crowd until early Sunday morning.

So ended a weekend of all the good things we like - super nice scooter riders, good old classic scooters, live bands, rides in the sun, gymkhana, dyno, good food from the barbecue, drinks from the bar and a bunch of great DJs playing to the last man.

We would like to say a big thank you to SIP Scootershop! Without our sponsors the goodie bags would not have been the same. Next summer the Classic Scooter Run will take place in Norway in the city of Gjøvik. Be there if you want to experience a Norwegian Scooter Run.
