Another small but important feature in carburetor accessories is a set of valve flaps. Standard flaps are made of steel or fiber glass. Carbon tuning .flaps are another category altogether. Their high tensile properties and durability make them ideal for ranges beyond 10,000 rpm‘s. Carbon flaps guarantee both better motor response and hefty acceleration, especially in the lower ranges. An important advantage of carbon vs. steel is their higher resistance to ripping under stress. The risk of major motor damage (cylinders and transmission) is reduced through use of carbon tuning flaps.
Reed valve flaps from POLINI and MALOSSI are delivered in various thicknesses (POLINI, 2, MALOSSI, 2 - 3), allowing exact induction timing regulation.
The rules are:
thinner flaps for better acceleration,
thicker flaps for higher top speeds.
It‘s not a bad idea to try out several combinations or mixed pairs. A necessity for every tuning level. MALOSSI and POLINI also offers carbon plates for do it yourself valve flaps.
