There's been a lot of controversy about the use of Variator roll grease. The roll sets from POLINI and MALOSSI are made with high quality Teflon surfaces, making it theorectically possible to be installed dry. Still, out of our own experience, we've found it better to smear a little variator grease on the things. Your advantages are smoother shifting, even with slightly angular rolls, making them longer lasting and easier to clean. Black dust tends to gather in the variator and it's a bitch to get it out. A little grease makes for easier cleaning!
