Clutches are one of the most, if not the most, important components in any motor as their function is to ensure an adequate and effective transfer of the motors power between the crankshaft and the gearbox. To transfer greater amounts of motor power, more friction needs to be available within the mechanism of the clutch. Stronger clutch springs create more frictional pressure, more frictional plates lead to a grater frictional area.
We stock an extensive range of clutch plates, clutch springs and complete clutch assemblies. We have clutches produced by all the major producers in the field and therefore have for almost all VESPA models a huge choice available. All clutch plates can be combined with all differing strengths of clutch springs suitable for their particular type of engine. The clutch plate assemblies that we can recommend for different states of tune are as follows:
Sport clutch plates: Four cork friction plates, new plain separate plates and hardened springs. Suitable for moderately tuned, road going motor setups, with a larger capacity cylinder and/or performance exhaust fitted. The transfer of power between the crankshaft and the gearbox will be improved. The DR clutch plate assembly kit has very high quality surfaced friction plates and a comfortable spring action. The clutch springs produced by MALOSSI are the strongest in the range and are ideal in combination with their very own CVF II 210cc cylinder.
RACE EVO clutch plates: Four friction plates with a high carbon mix surfacing, complete with plain separator plates and hardened springs, for more highly tuned setups. These friction plates are produced in small numbers exclusively for SIP by NEWFREN, including an increased amount of carbon material in the plate surfacing for an even higher level of grip in the clutch plate assembly. The clutches dosability is increased and also its durability. For the use of carbon friction plates we recommend 80W90 gearbox oil.
Conclusion: Necessary for every tuning project.
SIP-TIP: A new woodruff key, clutch nut and clutch nut locking washer are necessary while servicing your clutch. Stronger springs and friction plates are highly recommended for tuning projects. Do not forget to order SAE30 gearbox oil for an overnight soak of the friction plates prior to assembly. For carbon surfaced friction plates we recommend SAE 80W90 gearbox oil. The smaller PX clutch with the outer diameter of 108mm can also be used in the VESPA Sprint, Sprint Veloce, GTR, GT, T5, T4, GL, VNA and VNB models if the correct spacer washer is used (3mm thickness Art.-Nr.11351960) also available at our shop.
