There is an indicator obligation in Germany for every vintage scooter from 1961 onwards with more than 125cc. Anyone who carries out technical motor repairs can therefore not avoid making changes to the indicators. To easiest way to retrofit the indicators is with the indicator handlebar ends SIP style.
The indicators and the indicator lens have an E8 authorisation and may therefore legally be used on the road. The indicators are prepared for ultra bright 12V/21W halogen lights and thus fulfil the current standards. The bulbs are not included in the delivery package. Available with yellow or white indicator lens. The indicator lens also fits onto the old lamp holders of the HELLA indicator handlebar ends.
Conclusion: New technology in an old design.
SIP TIP: Order the matching parts such as indicator switch, rubber, grips for the indicator handlebar ends and relay at the same time. Don't forget the matching bulbs.
In the case of Vespa models which are serially produced with indicator handlebar ends such as the Sprint / Rally models, the retrofitting of indicators is not a problem. Strictly speaking, the indicator handlebar ends should not co-rotate with the throttle or gear tube. This means that the indicators are assembled in matching inner tubes placed in the throttle or gear tube and fixed to the steering head. The throttle or the gear tube thus rotates externally around the indicator tube. The required inner tubes are still available or have been re-released by us in the SIP Vintage Line.
In the case of Vespa models of the VNA/VNB/VBB series, etc., indicators were never planned and were never built for such scooters by PIAGGIO. It was always a case of ?put your arm out?. As a result, the retrofitting of indicator handlebar ends is not easily possible due to the construction. A great deal of good craftsmanship is required even to just produce the missing brackets in the steering head alone to affix the indicator inner tube. The easiest but actually non-permissible way of retrofitting indicator handlebar ends is to directly screw down the indicators to the throttle and gear tube. In the process, however, the indicators turn when the gas is pressed and are activated. You can find out more about the installation in the mounting instructions.
SIP-TIP: In order to avoid a voltage drop in the case of models with 6V electrics, the battery pack can be optionally used for the power supply of the indicators.
