Dropped handlebars have firmly established themselves on the scooter customising scene since they were introduced, for Vespas, over 20 years ago. During the 80s and 90s they were seen mostly on customised PX models and since they have also grown in popularity for use with earlier Vespa models such as the VBB, Sprint, Rally etc. One of our latest custom projects, the Glorious Basterd is equipped with a sporty set of drops. During construction the original Vespa steering assembly is accurately cut to an angle of 30° and securely welded. The welds are then filled, smoothed and primed for painting.
We have drop kits available for both earlier PX models with the smaller speedo and also the later Lusso models with the larger speedos. We even have a version available suitable for disc brake conversions, based on the PX '98/MY' models handlebar which includes the fixing for the hydraulic reservoir. The dropped bars we have available for earlier large frame Vespa models (VNB/ VBB/ Sprint/ Rally etc) are delivered including the internal gear change and throttle tubing.
Even though these kits are produced in excellent quality, they do not qualify automatically as road worthy in all European countries and when the scooter is registered there it can only be used for custom and show use when these bars are mounted. Should you for any reason, want to register a scooter with dropped handlebars for road use in Germany, you will have to have them individually approved by the local vehicle inspector (TÜV/DEKRA/MOT etc).
Conclusion: Extremely eye catching and not only for top custom scooters.
SIP-TIP: To really enhance and complete the look of your dropped bars, why not include the SIP digital speedo and tacho unit, an external hydraulic brake master cylinder, a clear glass head light and maybe a sprinkling of carbon or chrome?
