PINASCO have revived production of their classic gear box conversion kit to accompany their 177cc performance cylinder kit for the 125-150cc VESPA motors: The PINASCO FourDrive. The complete kit consists of a modified input shaft gear assembly and a taller fourth gear to replace the existing fourth gear cog on the output shaft. The resulting gear ratios are very well suited for use with the 177cc cylinder kit from the same manufacturer or other similarly torquey 177cc kits.

The process of changing up through the gears from third to fourth gear is made easier and, according to motor setup, impressive top speeds can be achieved. From the first through to the third gear the existing gear ratios remain the same as the OE PIAGGIO setup with 12, 16 and 20 teeth respectively. The amount of teeth on the fourth gear however has been decreased to 21 (originally 25 teeth). The fourth gear on the output shaft side also included in the kit, has been shortened by one tooth to 35 teeth, the same as the latest OE PIAGGIO setup on the PX 125-150cc VESPA models. The primary driven cog has, similar to the standard item, 67 teeth. The FourDrive gear box conversion kit is produced using polished, tempered steel and is very easily mounted as it comes with the gear cogs pre-assembled onto the input shaft assembly. This conversion kit fits all VESPA 125 GT 1°/3°/GTR/TS/150 GL 2°/150 Sprint 1°/3°/V/P125-150X 1° models.

Conclusion: A complete gear box solution especially for PINASCO fans with performance orientated 177cc large frame VESPAs.

SIP-TIP: To fine tune your gear box setup you can make use of the DRT output shaft gear cogs and also different sized clutch and primary driven cogs. Always install and replace ALL of the smaller primary drive components during each major service. The securing plates on both sides of the primary drive, input shaft holding nut, tab washer and also the input shaft needle bearings should all be replaced for save and enduring use of your motor. Last but not least do not forget to order fresh gearbox oil, gaskets and all relevant oil seals!
