Our SIP Scootershop Christmas staff party has become a very dear tradition over the years. So we gathered for this festive occasion on Friday night after closing time to head from our SIP headquarters to 10km away Pitzling. There we started off with a guided tour of the local chapel. Afterwards, we headed into the Teufelskuechenwald (Devil’s Kitchen Forest) with torches where we listened to a couple of blood-chilling legends from dark ages. Finally, we reached the “Teufelskueche” (Devil’s Kitchen), a restaurant located right near the river Lech South of Landsberg. Everything was well prepared for this year’s SIP Christmas party there already, so an evening of entertainment could kick off. Julia, Manu and their helping hands had come up with a fantastic program for the evening. Once we finished eating, there was hardly time to catch your breath. Enjoy the pictures and our year end retrospective video 2011. We wish all our customers, suppliers and friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Scootering season 2012!

An estimated crowd of 20-30k visitors (including Average Joes as well as Schwarzenegger-like guys in full club combat gear) met there last weekend for the Custombike, a trade fair which is exclusively devoted to the fans of the two-wheel cult and the corresponding unique lifestyle.
Converted choppers, streetfighters, cruisers, bobbers and many more styles representing the Custom culture were numerously present. The Custombike witnessed its most successful year in terms of numbers of visitors this year. The exhibitors were quick to realize that and squeezed the last inch out of the available exhibition space.
Every corner of the fair was crammed with stuff that would make the eyes of dedicated two-wheel fans water. Virtually everybody was there, from tiny custom workshops to renowned companies such as Paaschburg & Wunderlich, Harley Davidson dealers and famous exhibitors such as Hardcore Cycles (by Marcus Walz). Of course, “Pfeili” was there too. Though he didn’t have a stand of his own this time, he surely wasn’t idle.

By the way, it’s not only artists like Marcus Pfeil which are active in the chopper and scooter scene at the same time. No – other exhibitors and visitors revealed that they have a Vespa or Lambretta in their garage as well. Marcus handpainted one of the two bikes participating in the “Biker Build-Off” live. The “Biker Build-Off” is a challenge between two custom workshops from different countries. This year it was a contest between Germany and Switzerland. The mission was building a chopper live on the stage of the trade fair’s main hall within two days. The audience could then vote for the winner.

A special attraction was Pit Lengner and his legendary gravity slope show – the “Wall of Death”. The smell of motorsport – castor oil and methanol… If you haven’t seen it, you surely missed out on something. Pit is riding the gravity slope in a bowl with walls about three meters high with a home-made 2-stroke pocket bike, a kart and a speedway bike. He has been doing that for more than 30 years, without any insurance or helmet. We have brought you a video of one of the last shows in Germany.

For those who are more into clothes and tattoos than bikes, there was also plenty to see. There were many stands offering everything from leather jackets to underwear, of course always related to the respective subculture. And if this was still not enough for you, you could go and get an ink souvenir under your skin at the stand of “King Kerosin”.

All in all, we have seen a lot and met very interesting exhibitors. The Custombike is an event you shouldn’t miss next year.

As usual, you can find all other pictures on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sipscootershop/sets/72157628289148665/

A small SIP delegation was warmly welcomed by the Arche residents. The SIP staff was shown round the building, then everybody had some tasty homemade cake and coffee. Stefan (sitting, 2nd left) performed a lovely song on his tuba.

The donation will be used for the redesign of the garden, for covered bicycle parking and a barbecue area. Also the staircase is still in need of renovation.
Unbelievable how time seems to fly! Once more we were able to celebrate a memorable staff anniversary. This time we honoured four employees for ten years of job tenure! All in all, Marga Mueller, Stephan Fischer, Stephan Hufschmid and Martin Silberhorn (right to left) combine for a whopping 40 years as members of the SIP Scootershop Team. Stephan Hufschmid started his career as an apprentice to become an office clerk while Martin has found his spot as key account manager after working in our logistics department. Stephan Fischer has been working in our logistics department right from the beginning and Marga can usually be found picking or packing orders.
We have come a long way together, retrospectively we are lost for words about the evolution we have been part of during the last ten years. We thank our four employees for remaining loyal to the company for such a long time and are looking forward to many more years as part of the SIP Scootershop Team.
To honour the occasion, the jubilarians received an honorary certificate from the hands of Klaus Hofbauer (4th from left), branch manager of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. And as these certificates won’t satisfy any hunger, the whole team could enjoy a proper Bavarian meal of roast pork and dumpling afterwards. Bon appétit!

Finally the weather was good enough to let our SIP Team Summer BBQ 2011 take place. This time in the high rope challenge course in Utting. Once a year, at the peak of the scooter season, the SIP team throws a summer party, where fun, advanture, food and drinks are the set themes. We've already been wakeboarding, river rafting, and kart racing. This year we entered the Hochseilgarten Ammersee's pirate ship. The tropical summer weather quickly encouraged the first climbing groups to explore the pirate ship's routes. There were easy tracks for the kids, as well as tricky routes for the men and everybody was having a good (floodlit) time up in the air until late. Thanks to the BBQ master, the Hochseilgarten team, Uli Ernst and all who came and helped to make it a great night.

In our case, the uniting feature was our common love for Vintage Vespa. I suppose few of you would spontaneously join a Vespa tour that sounds like sheer torture: 2,200km in five days including the Reschenpass, Stilfser Joch, Gavia Pass, POLINI city Bergamo, on the coast towards La Spezia, Pontedera (home of PIAGGIO), Pisa, back towards the SIP SCOOTERSHOP headquarters at Landsberg am Lech by Modena, Lago di Garda and the famous Brenner Pass. However, twelve highly motivated riders started on 12 July 2011 at around 9am on their journey into the unknown. What was sure was that the Vespas involved had to endure the extraordinary strains of this trip to guarantee a lasting memory. No major incidents were reported during the first 200km until the first breakdown just before the Italian border at Hotel Erika in Tyrol. The engine did not show any throttle response so we changed both carburetor and stator plate. Diagnosis: vital signs are stable but weak. Off goes the cylinder. Piston perforated, rotary valve okay. After some more technical assistance we were off to the Stilfser Joch (2,757m above sea level) but only managed to run ashore in a little guesthouse for the night with lots of tetra pak wine. Some more tinkering with the defective Vespa ensued, the clutchside oil seal was changed and the Vespa finally came to life again.
After enjoying a proper breakfast we headed off to Bergamo, home of POLINI. We could take our first glimpse of the new 210cc aluminium cylinder kit, were shown the premises and even got professional help for our defective autolube Vespa PX. Thanks a lot guys. In the vening we finally reached Forte dei Marmi. The members from Vespa Club Massa gave us a warm welcome and literally drowned us in club merchandise.
One highlight followed the other so we visited holy ground the next day at the PIAGGIO headquarters. There we admired the assembly lines where the Vespa LX, GTS and the new old PX are produced. 35 mechanics are working two shifts and approximately four hours until a PX model is assembled and ready for its first test run. A truly memorable experience. After taking a quick splash into the sea at Pisa, we took delight in another memorable experience as our head of goods incoming performed a first class karaoke session. If it wasn’t for his job at SIP, he’d certainly make a heck of a crooner.
The next morning we passed by the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and quickly stopped at the Ferrari headquarter in Maranello. Due to a blown clutch the group split into two. While the older guys among us had a party of their own in Pavullo nel Frignano, the rest was sipping Aceto Balsamico in Modena. Once back together we headed for Lago di Garda to get ourselves a proper sun tan, relax and have a good meal.
The trip back from Garda to Landsberg am Lech was pretty much routine but had us get wet to the bones. All in all it seems that Vespa is all over the world and all participants of this magnificent ride will certainly be back for more next year. Gentlemen, start your engines.

All the best, Christian from SIP Scootershop.

Maybe Tsarist Empire, northermost metropolis or the former communist name 'Leningrad'. What you rather won't think of, are scooters or Vespas. And yet: After decades of a Vespa-diaspora, Russia now has two official Vespa Clubs. One in Moscow, one in St. Petersburg. In june, there are the so called 'white nights' in the baltic seaport: the sun sets well after 10pm, just to rise again at 2am. In between, it's not dark either and the streets are crowded with people who are celebrating the short summer. Our long-standing customer Alexej Bulkin (president of the Vespa club of St. Petersburg and of the Vespa Club Russia) agreed to show us the city near the river Newa, so the three of us travelled there. Alexej and Stas (Stanislav) picked us up from the airport with a Wrangler Jeep (!) and on the way back, we were already able to get the first impressions of the pulsating city life.

The nostalgic search for statues of Lenin or hammer and sickle symbols is rather hard, because the city has been cleared out during the last 20 years. But some of the monumental buildings are still visible and their sheer size is very impressive. Our two city guides lead us right along the central city axis, the 'Newski Prospekt', and into a scene bar called 'Radiobaby' (where Vespafan and DJ Denis is spinning the records), hidden behind several backyards and thus 100% tourist-proof. The music is streamed live on the radiobaby channel. Denis, who is the drummer of the Ska band 'the Toasters', interviewed me about scooterists in Europe and a number of other vespa-related things (Check out the interview here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/436364/Memo.mp3). I also learned that there are ca. 100 Vespas/several hundred scooters in St. Petersburg and that it is difficult to import used scooters to Russia. The easiest way to import is via Japan, which obviously is anything but nearby. New Vespa scooters are about 25% more expensive that here in Germany and the Finnish importer (who is also responsible for Russia), decided against the sale of the new Vespa PX.

Considering these circumstances, you can assume that Sergej and his gang are attracted to the Vespa out of conviction and not because it is part of a fashion trend at the moment. We borrowed a couple of Vespas the nect day to cruise through the city an to the Baltic sea with a couple of club members. I was allowed to ride Stas' ET3, which is equipped with a PX200 engine and lots of SIP tuning parts. It's also bautifully painted in an extravagant airbrush design and would supposedly cause quite an uproar at European scooter runs.

If you leave the center of St. Petersburg, you drive through endless apartment building areas. It's incredible how many people live in the suburbs of the town. 40km away from the city is the beach with a beautiful view over the Gulf of Finland. We stopped at a trendy beach bar, ideal for chilling, and enjoyed the unique sunlight of the northern sunset - at 11pm. On another occasion, we went to Stas' own 'Kult Bar'. The whole location is designed in Vespa style with glass tables that sit on 2 Vespa tires, and a vespa lever above the table (that sounds a horn), which you pull, if you want the waitress to come. Loving decor, posters, signs - definitely the coolest Vespa bar, I've ever seen.

We drove through the city once again, the next day to see the most important sights. For me, one of them was an old shed in one of the suburbs, the parking place of a complete 1961 Vjatka. Following an order of Chrustschow, the Vespa GS150 was rebuilt under the name 'Vjatka VP 150'. Anton was already waiting, when we arrived and showed me the quaint vehicle. Thick wheelbarrow tires, everything just a little bigger, ***sheet metal like a tank. But the engine, tells Anton, is largely identical to the Italian GS engine, which means that most of the spare parts should fit without a problem. As this Vjatka used to stand in the dry/hot region of Vladikavkaz (Czech Republic) there is zero rust on it. Alexej promised his help to get the scooter to Landsberg. If that works, you can look at it in the SIP Shop's exhibition area in the future.

We also had the chance to meet some other key persons of St. Petersburg's Vespa scene. Among them Olga Boyarinova (Haute Couture fashion designer and Vespa pilot), with whom we had a great time. Of course also Alexej's shop, with accessories and tuning parts for vespas and scooters.

The beautiful city and - even more - the hospitality of the people in St. Petersburg have left a lasting impresseion on us. The sun was already shining brightly as the first courious visitors arrived at 9am.
Lukas and Moritz had designed and built a tricky gymkhana parcours with ramps, traffic cones and a wheel of Fortune.

The Espresso Ape provided us with tasty Italian coffee and we sold Bavarian snacks. George of the Sensu-Crew showed a cool stunt performance and Tim (of Vollgas Motorroller from Überlingen) had brought his dyno on which people could run their scooters for free.

The Piaggio Center Finkl had many new Vespas (among them a brand new PX 2011) on display and everybody could testride them. Everybody who decided to buy something in our shop got a 10% discount, which is why the queue never seemed to get any shorter. Soul DJ Loe Ernst provided the groovy soundtrack of the day!

The absolute highlight: The rideout through Landsberg's historical part of the city. About 50 scooters wound their way through the small streets until they reached the Trattoria at the Bayertor. Salvatore kindly welcomed us with Sprizz and pizza. On we went to the Motocross area in Ellighofen, where we spent the rest of the aftrenoon.

In the evening the party division went on to the Sonderbar (A celar full of soul - once again with Leo @ the turntables) to celebrate in style...

For us, it was a great day with perfect weather and round about 400 visitors. Let's hope, the 2011 season continues just like that!
The visitor's of the scooter customshow in Saarbrücken are stunned by gold and chrome and the SIP team was there and brought a bling bling report back home for you. We saw a number of new scooters this year, from drag to high class custom. There was something to every taste. Very en vogue this year: Japan style.

Here's a fine example of the species by Thomas Schmitt, who once again presented a new project: Wide base tires front and rear - never seen before! Thomas has the rare gift to turn ugly scoots into gems. He found this model in an ATU shop and had a vision of gold and fat tires right there. "I totaly fancied the paint. It definitely had to stay" he tells us.

Alongside the building center scooter trend you had the chance to see many air-ride customs. Shocks filled with pressurised air and all kinds of lever constructions made the scooters go up and down.

Also the SIP Street-Team Augsburg developed an air-ride fork that makes their scooter jump.

Speedline from Denmark had their double cylinder sprinter on display. Interesting frame construction, 2 times polini big evo and a fat rear wheel - looks like power!

In the field of engine tuning there were a couple of 2 cylinder engines to be marveled at and a 2stroke 3 cylinder automatic engine that won the "best dealer demonstrator" category.

All in all another great custom show!

Cool Britannia. The days of Brighton and its famous street riots between Mods and Rockers seem to be over for good. This is at least the impression we got on our visit of the Birmingham trade fair last weekend where both motorcycle and scooter dealers peacefully met at the annual Motorcycle Expo 2K11 to catch up on the latest developments for the new season 2011.

Anybody worshipping the UK as the promised land of Jimmy and his parka-wearing club mates had ample opportunity to shake hands with some of the grand names in the business, among them Norrie Kerr from VE UK, Ian Frankland of Taffspeed or Mark Broadhurst from MB Developments. Special thanks go to Norrie Kerr, his son Rob(ert) and the whole team from VE UK. As the new distribution partner of SIP Scootershop in the UK they welcomed us with genuine British hospitality so we could share the stand at Motorcycle Expo 2K11 with them. The trade visitors made good use of the possibility to take a closer look at the SIP product range and get additional information. We were positively surprised by the very good feedback we got for our products and did not forget to say thanks.

So here is our conclusion. The easygoing mentality and good humor which is still a trademark characteristic of all Brits made for some delightful encounters. We had the opportunity to get a picture of the famous British humor on Sunday night when the British Dealer News trade publishers held their annual award ceremony. A stand-up comedian had the fully occupied hall scream with laughter within minutes. As the British scooter and motorcycle industry has been hit by the economic crisis just like the German industry, this is all the more impressive and living proof that the Monty Python spirit is still alive and well: „Always look on the bright side of life“.

It didn't however rain on our parade, everybody was in a good mood, and the visitors flocked to the fairground with umbrellas and rubber boots or completely wrapped in plastic bags.

We are very happy that we had the chance to socialise with many people there!

Copy - Paste. That would be the shortest possible summary of the EICMA 2010. On Nov 2nd, the SIP Scootershop Team hit the road for Europe's biggest 2-wheeler trade fare in Milan. We were busy checking out the news all over the place and found quite a lot of interesting new products. Amidst the multi colored chaos of innumerable e-scooters and shocking rip offs we also found a couple of new models of well knowen trademarks. PIAGGIO introduced a couple of 'World premieres', such as the new edition of the Vespa PX (one 125cc and a 150cc model) that people had been anxious to see for a long time. The PX, sold 3 million times in 33 years, was slightly updated and equipped with some beatiful new details. The cascade strongly resembles the end 70ies archetype. Beautiful leather handle bars with Vespa logo, floorboard mat with Vespa design and - the most striking novelty - the new PX's redesigned seat. The new seat will definitely offer the pillion a comfortable ride and looks like a decent touring alternative.

You will be able to get the parts at our shop asap. Same goes for the modern Vespa series that is obviously ready to attack in 2011: A matt black Vespa GTS 300 'Super Sport', a 'Touring' model with all kinds of fittings and a fashion version of the GTV made our eyes sparkle with joy. Or were it the attractive your ladies, taking a seat on the scooters? Probably both. PIAGGIO did not only show a new MP3 model "Yourban", designed in agressive future-optics, but also reserved a one part of the booth for their prototype of a Citycar. The innovative hybrid with three seats and a total length of no more than 2.5m is supposed to tie in with the success of the APE, although the fruit stand sellers might no longer be part of the main target group.

The LML 4stroke 'Vespas' are big with bright colours, lifestyle and creativity. At the trade fair, about 20 colour combinations were supposed to raise the visitors' interest. New: The LML Star 200 with increased capacity and fuel-injection system. Unfortunately this engine is not compatible with PX frames. Another fun novelty: The LML 151cc - inspired by driving licence guide lines. A battery driven LML prototype shows that the future is soon to come. A witty alternative to the other faceless and mostly ugly e-scooters that we saw in Milan.

The manufacturers of accessories were splashing out. We were surprised to see so many vintage scooters this year. Obviously the vintage wave has washed upon the manufacturers' shore too. POLINI positioned a tuned V50 directly at the entrace of their booth, equipped with the brandnew 135cc direct inlet. The news in a nutshell: 52.8mm crankshaft, new digital ignition, LML 4stroke racing kit and exhaust system. new Corsa 44mm kit, evolution vario cover and air filter. MALOSSI seem to have plenty of news up their sleeve too. A new tuning kit for the 276cc Quasar engine, new overrange kit, MALOSSI helmet, geared scooter exhaust systems and a couple of other new products. You'll find them in our online shop next week. PINASCO have new PHBG hopper carburetors, cylinder heads for Vespa PX with exchangeable combustion chamber calottes and central spark plug, as well as SI carburetors with venturi hopper.

Hot ladies, beautiful machines - or the other way round... there was a lot to be seen in Milan.
