Yesterday the 69th EICMA - one of the world's biggest bicyle fairs - opened in Milan. From tomorrow on (until the 13th of November), it will be open to the public. 1174 exhibitors from 36 countries turned the 135.000m² fairground into a 2wheel-theme park, which more than half a million visitors are expected to visit. The EICMA is still the most important fair, regarding trends for the upcoming season, which is why all the major manufacturers are present and show a large number of new models and parts.
While the 'big ones' BMW, Aprilia, Yamaha, etc. mainly seem to focus on Maxi-Scooters, Piaggio allows us to peek into the Vespa's future. Although the 'Quarantasei''s design is rather experimental (reminding of the first Vespa prototyp/1940ies), the engine is very likely to be used in new Vespa street models soon. (A 4-stroker, equipped with a new fuel injection, 3 valves aircooled; 125cc: 11,7hp at 8250rpm and 7,6nm at 7000rpm; 150cc: 13hp at 8000rpm and 9,3nm at 6500rpm).
Visitors will have the chance to see interesting news in both the classic and automatic section: Polini presents a new clutch kit for smallframes and a high-speed variomatic for T-Max&Co. Malossi shows new flyscreens (for PX) and shock absorbers (RS24/RS3 series)...
Alongside the news, this year's EICMA will also focus on several topics of special interest, auch as sustainability/alternative technologies, road safety and 2wheel tourism. The action-area (MotoLive) lures the visitors outside with races as well as stunt- and trial shows, freestyle and test drive tracks.
Hot news from LML, too: Alongside colorful designs, maximum performance at low fuel consumption and minimum emmissions seems to be the general motto. The Star Light Deluxe models - the 'new PK' - come in 50cc/4valves and in 125cc/2valves, both with variomatic. Also the Star Diseguale and the Star Sidecar (125 and
200cc) are definitely noteworthy new models.
