If the scooter does not have any directional stability, or has a spongy road behaviour we recommend checking the upper and lower steering head bearings. It is easy to check the functionality with an unloaded front wheel. Simply jack up the scooter on the centre stand and move the steering shaft with the wheel control back and forth in the direction of travel. If the steering column shows clearance it is necessary to either retighten the upper nut or to replace the bearings. Checking the bearing shells is also recommended at the same time. We stock the individual bearings/balls as well as complete headset bearing sets.
SIP-TIP: With the steering head bearing key it is possible to open and lock the upper attachment professionally. With the appropriate punch bearing and retraction tool, changing the bearing shells is as easy as pie!
Attention: for models Vespa 125 VNB3-6T/150 VBB 2nd series/VGLB 2nd series the upper bearing shell, the dust cover as well as the lower bearing shell of this bearing kit are not identical to the original parts. Unfortunately, these parts are no longer available for the listed models. However, it is possible to use these parts from our alternative bearing kit.
