One of the advantages of wrapping the main body, the catalyser and manifold of your exhaust with heat resistant wrap is that the temperature of the gases within the system is kept as high as possible. This helps the catalyser system work more efficiently and consequently the whole system benefits. Another advantage is that the hotter the gases are, the faster and more ideally their movement is. This heat resistant material is designed for use at temperatures up to 750°C (Art. DSS10501) or 1.200°C (Art. WI412150).
Exhausts were first wrapped in heat resistant material by pilots and mechanics on the motor racing scene wishing to protect engine components, or indeed the racer himself, from any heat created by its hot gases while racing. The wrap is easily applied: Soak it in water for 10min, then start to wrap your exhaust, beginning at the manifold. Let the layers of wrap overlap by 50%. The end of the wrap is held in place by a hose clamp. Start your engine right away to heat up the exhaust and 'burn in' the wrap.
