MALOSSI have come up with another class-leading performance cylinder for 50cc automatic scooters in the form of the 'Testa Rossa'. There are two versions available, one with 70cc and the other with 94cc, both being suitable for use with original PIAGGIO and MINARELLI motors as well as the MALOSSI 'C-One' and 'RC-One' motor-blocks. Sounds complicated? Well, it is!
The versions available for the original motors still make use of the original cylinder studs protruding from the crankcase to hold the cylinder and cylinder head in place, whereas the cylinders produced to be compatible with the MALOSSI performance crankcases are attached to the motor using a cylinder foot flange mounting arrangement. This layout allows larger transfer ports to be included, with enormous tuning potential! This separate fixing of the components allows a fresh approach to the design of the cylinder head, which is also very promising if you are putting a high-performance motor together. It has a modular construction with multiple fixing studs and also provides an instant eye-catching effect with a 'testarossa' style red anodised cylinder head. This feature was a fixed part of the overall design, even at the prototype stage of its development. Additional design points, such as a Nikasil lined bore, bridged outlet port or even the adaptive exhaust port mechanism appear almost as footnotes against this innovative tuning conception. These, and many more, features will ensure this cylinders position at the top of the tuning ladder for many years to come!
