Variator springs - A sadly underestimated capitel of optimal Variator adjustment is the Variator back pressure spring. This spring puts back pressure on the back converter ("Speed Drive/Torque Drive"). This in turn influences the "behavior" of the variator When the fan belt starts to slip, or the torque changes when accelerating or when the motor, despite variator adjustment with roll sets, just doesn't reach optimal rpm's; then it's time for variator springs. After being installed, variator rolls, and if necessary, clutch springs should be re-adjusted; we find this the only way to coordinate the whole system.
The springs available from MALOSSI for the converter unit (driven pulley) are constructed using a silicium steel alloy which guarantees extra stability during use under extreme conditions and operating temperatures. This is reached through a high proportion of carbon in the steel alloy and a special tempering process for the outer surface. In addition MALOSSI variator springs are dynamically balanced and specifically developed for individual demands.
They are available in three categories:
- Hardened : High stiffness
- Extra hardened : Very high stiffness
- Racing : Developed for heavy duty use and racing
SIP TIP : The MALOSSI converter grease was specifically developed for use at higher motor RPM. It is available in two versions : MRG grease and Racing grease.
